Around 65 pupils from three primary schools in the south of the county will be taking part in a special dance performance at Pembroke School on Monday.

It is a culmination of six weeks of classes involving a dance specialist working with children from Monkton Priory, Stackpole and Lamphey schools.

Dance has been identified as being an area which needs to be developed in primary schools.

It is an early finding of the Pembroke Development Centre set up as a result of the PE and School Sports (PESS) project - a partnership between the Sports Council and the Welsh Assembly Government to raise the profile of physical education and school sport.

The PESS project aims to create 66 centres in Wales over the next three years. Two have been established in Pembrokeshire based on the family of schools at Pembroke and Ysgol Bro Gwaun in the north.

The pupils giving the performance have been working with dance teacher Margaret Ames from Dawns Dyfed, and are excited about displaying their work on stage in front of friends, parents and teachers.

The one-hour long programme will commence at 2 pm. To reserve seats, ring Pembroke Development Centre manager, John Scrivener, on 01646 682461.
