Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger and many other well-known hits of the wonderful Dame Shirley Bassey rang out at the RAOB Club in Kilgetty on Friday last in the tribute show presented by the Tenby committee of Cancer Research UK.

The very talented 'Voice of Wales', Liza Starlight (pictured), in a beautiful dark blue gown, cleverly impersonated Dame Shirley, not just with her unique voice, but her movements and expressions were uncanny. Liza's very strong and powerful voice echoed throughout the hall and left many speechless at her incredible talent.

In the second half of the programme, Liza was 'herself' and sang the songs of some of the present-day chart vocalists with just as much volume and meaning.

The supporting act was local artist Bobby Gould. He quickly got the show on the road, starting with a few warm-up favourites, during which he invited Amanda Lewis to join him on stage for a duo. Amanda is to be praised for her courage and fun. She needs to get an agent!

Bobby delighted the audience with his singing and telling funny stories and he certainly succeeded in getting everyone in party mood - and ensured that it continued through until midnight.

A raffle of donated prizes took place: voucher from Paul and Sue, of Silver Strand, Saundersfoot; Sunday lunch for two at the Gower Hotel; a basket of fruit and an Easter egg with cuddly toy from committee members, and two surprise prizes, one of which looked remarkably like a bottle of gin.

The chairman of the committee, Geoff Somner, then thanked everyone present for their support and briefly outlined the charity's work and its finances.

The newly-formed Tenby committee of Cancer Research UK received many thanks at the end of the evening for presenting such a wonderful show, in fact they have been requested to do it again next year, by not only the supporters, but the artists themselves!

The committee are very encouraged by the appreciation they received and will certainly bear this in mind. In turn, they would like to thank all those who attended and made the evening such a success. Over 100 people attended the event and helped to raise the magnificent sum of £1,300.

Cancer Research UK would like to thank the committee of the RAOB Club for their kindness in allowing the use of their superb premises, Alan Holt for generally overseeing that everything was in good working order with the lights and sound; and the bar staff who worked tirelessly throughout.

Thanks must also be given to all those who donated food for the light supper: J. V. Rowe of Tenby - their ham is the best! The Odley family, of Saundersfoot, for the bread rolls; New Hedges Mini Market for more rolls; Sainsbury's, of Tenby, through Lorraine Jones, for the delicious cheese; and Tesco, of Tenby, for their voucher to purchase crisps, etc.

The committee would also like to thank all those who assisted on the night: Mr. John Dugmore for carrying out the Master of Ceremonies duties like nobody else can; Mr. Graham Poole for his expertise in making sure everybody paid or showed their tickets to gain entry; and all those non-committee members who helped in the preparation of the light supper.

Thanks also to the Tenby Observer and Radio Pembrokeshire for their kind assistance in spreading the word.

Cancer Research UK would like to thank everyone who supported not only this event, but all events held throughout the year; it is very much appreciated. Please continue, as without your help we cannot fund the research required to combat this disease.
