A 'full-house' gathered for the Cyfarfod Nadolig last Thursday, when Mrs. Phyl Williams conducted the meeting. After a warm welcome, given by the chairman, Mrs. Eluned Brown, in Welsh, then in English, Phyl and her group of lady singers led the afternoon's entertainment. All carols were sung in Welsh and they included 'Daeth Nadolig', 'Toriad Gwawr', 'Tua Bethlehem Dref', 'Can Nadolig I Blant' and 'Hwiangerdd Mair'. There were also community carols and hymns sung by everyone, in Welsh. Readings, appropriate for the season, were read in English and Welsh by Gwen, Glesni, Eluned and Joyce, and Phyl delighted the audience with two beautiful solos. Mrs. Gwenllian Jones played the piano for all the musical items. Mrs. Bertha Walters gave the vote of thanks at the end of the entertainment and Avryl, Jean, Trevena and others then served tea and delicious home- made mince pies. It was a lovely, quietly enjoyable afternoon of Welsh culture and companionship and in the cosy confines of St. Johns schoolroom, many lingered until well after the mince pies were eaten and the tea things washed up. The next meeting of the society will be on Thursday, January 18, at St. Johns, when the Barddoniaeth Menna Elfyn will address the group. At this meeting, further details of Dydd Gwyl Dewi will be available.
