At the annual general meeting of the Cymrodorion Society, last week, the chairman welcomed those present and read the minutes of the 2008 AGM, which were agreed.
Giving her short report, the chairman, Trevena Vincent, thanked the officers of the society for their work during the year, and the other members for their regular attendances. She felt the year had been a successful one, despite the disappointing numbers for the first meeting in October 2008.
Every month's speaker she felt, promoted the language and the culture of Wales in their use of Welsh and in their topics. She said that this was the purpose of the society.
Mrs. Gwen Eastlake thanked Trevena for the last year's programme and the work it entailed.
In correspondence, Trevena had received a very nice letter from Mr. Michael Francis, of the National Library, Aberystwyth, saying how much he had enjoyed his visit to Tenby Cymrodorion Society.
The treasurer's report, given by Mrs. Jean Booth, showed a satisfactory balance, and this could be used to subsidise speakers' visits.
At the election of officers, it was agreed that Mr. Islwyn John remain as president, Mrs. Trevena Vincent and Mrs. Mollie Neate become joint-chairman, Mrs. Jean Booth remain as treasurer, and Mrs. Mollie Neate, Miss Avryl Rees and Mrs. Trevena Vincent will take on secretarial duties.
It was agreed that annual subscriptions should remain at £5 pa, and the venue, St. Johns schoolroom, dates and times of meetings remain the same, every third Thursday of the months November to February, at 2.30 pm.
The first meeting of the new season will be a coffee morning on October 15, at 10.30 am, at the Royal Lion, if available.
Programmes for the year 2009/10 will be made available at the October meeting, and subs will also be collected then.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Eluned Brown proposed a vote of thanks to Trevena for her last two years as chairman.
