Dyrham Service Station Alec Colley Cup - round two

Stackpole had a comprehensive win at Pembroke Dock who were bowled out for the lowly total of 59 chasing a Stackpole total of 142 for 7. John Davies dominated the Stackpole innings with a fine knock of 56, including seven 4s, supported by John Roberts with 15. John Mousley took 3 for 40 for the Dock, supported by Luke Murray with 2 for 36. Although John Camani scored 20, wickets tumbled quickly at the other end when the Dock batted. Katherine Huxley took 5 for 7, including a hat-trick, to cause the collapse and Andrew Hay chipped in with 2 for 12. A double wicket maiden last over by Johnston's Rick Lawrence prevented Cresselly from getting the 12 runs required to win, after Johnston had posted a total of 117 for 6. Mark Goodridge scored 52 with five 4s and two 6s and the other batsmen in double figures were Paul Davies with 13, including the first six of his career, Rick Lawrence with 11 and Richard Davies with 10. Sion Jenkins took 3 for 36 and skipper Richard Arthur 2 for 31. Rhydian Rees scored 29 when the visitors replied, supported by an innings of 17 not out from Selwyn Cole and 16 apiece from Steve Davies and Jim Kinnear. However, Cresselly were restricted to 108 for 8 to lose by nine runs, following an impressive spell of 5 for 10 by Rick Lawrence. Nathan James and Paul Davies had one wicket each for Johnston. Haverfordwest were too powerful for Pembroke who lost by 63 runs after the visitors had aggregated 138 for 6. Julian James was 28 not out, after his father Steve had scored a typically aggressive 24 before being caught by Simon Smith-Wrench off the bowling of Rob Weston. Opener Richard James also scored 24, John Tooze 14 and Stephen Price 12. Rob Weston ended with 2 for 10, Chris Thomas took 2 for 40 and there was a wicket each for Lee Jenkins and Sean Powell. The total was out of reach of the Pembroke batsmen, despite the efforts of skipper Simon Smith-Wrench, who batted well for his 29. He was backed up by Rob Weston, who scored 12, and Lee Jenkins with 10, but the innings closed on 75 for 9. Simon Tremaine took 3 for 22 and James Morris 3 for 19 for the visitors. A young Crew team went down by eight wickets away to Burton, after totalling 100 for 6. Nick Cope scored 28 not out with two 6s, Matthew Phillips 19, Rhys Davies 14 and Scott Helmich 14 not out. For Burton, Jonathan Venables took 3 for 18 and David Hayes 2 for 16. Burton reached a winning total of 101 for 2 after 15 overs. Michael Venables led the victory bid with 44 not out, supported by 24 from Chris Campbell and 19 not out from Andrew Cromwell. Kerry Waters and Rhys Davies were the wicket- takers for Carew.

Duggie Morris Cup

In an exciting local derby at Carew, the visitors Cresselly won by three wickets with just three balls remaining. Carew had scored 133 for 5 following a solid opening partnership of 47 between Brian Hall and Robert Hicks. Hicks was bowled by Stefan Jenkins for 20, but Hall went on to score a cultured 67, which included two 6s and five 4s, before his innings was brought to an end when he was caught by Andrew Harries off the bowling of skipper Lynn Richards. Phil Jones had a bright and breezy knock of 20 not out. Unfortunately, Stefan Jenkins required hospital treatment for a dislocated finger after attempting to take a return catch from Brian Hall. Jenkins had bowled well and ended with 1 for 9 and the other wicket-takers were Phil James, Lyn Richards, Mathew Lewis and Damian Arthur. When Cresselly batted, a number of the early order batsmen got in and then out. Opener Julian Arthur scored 27, Simon Cole 28 and Adam Chandler 22 before being bowled by Steve Ive off the last ball of the penultimate over. Chandler had a productive partnership with Ryan Lewis, who blasted 23 runs from only 12 balls, with two well-struck sixes and two 4s. Lewis is an ideal impact player and his brief innings altered the course of the match. Cresselly needed three to win off the last over. Although Andrew Harries was trapped leg before wicket by the first ball of the last over bowled by Aled Davies, the new batsman, Phil James, survived the next and then hit a three to mid-wicket to win. Steve Ive ended with 2 for 32, John Canton took 1 for 11 in four overs, Aled Davies 1 for 26 and Tim Hicks 1 for 24. Pembroke had a comprehensive win over Pembroke Dock in the replay of their abandoned second round match. At the first attempt, Pembroke had scored 176 for 3 and the match was abandoned in the 14th over of the Pembroke Dock innings, with the Dock on a total of 85 for 6. In the replay, Pembroke scored 220 for 1. Skipper Mathew Mitchell and Phil Hay had a first wicket partnership of 174, which ended when Hay was caught by Peter Jones off the bowling of John Mousley for 77 having hit three 6s and four 4s. Mitchell was undefeated at the end after a superb innings of 124, which included no less than seven 6s and 10 fours. Daniel Scourfield was 10 not out. The Dock batted well in reply, but were unable to keep up with the pace of the Pembroke run rate. The Dock innings closed on 100 for 5 to give the visitors victory by a margin of 120 runs. Nick Daley was 36 not out and had been supported by Mark Davies with 24. Anton John, Daniel Scourfield, Danny Williams, Perry Phillips and Nigel Phillips each picked up a wicket for the visitors.
