TONIGHT (Friday, August 7), Span Arts' cult film night returns! Trailer Trash is a film night with a difference, with a programme of animations, short films and weird old trailers, followed by a main feature.
This time, Trailer Trash is in horror mode, with Re-Animator, a classic horror film packed with black comedy and wild action that borders on the slapstick.
Re-Animator was made on an ultra-low budget, but it was an instant sensation, an amazingly imaginative and action-packed romp which is by turns hilarious, horrific and downright bizarre.
Set among the corridors and laboratories of a rambling hospital, it's the story of Dr. Herbert West, a rebellious medical student who discovers a way to bring the dead back to life. But he finds that once re-animated, the dead are not in the least bit co-operative.
Among the short films that will be screening beforehand are some little gems - an Oscar-winning animation voiced by Geoffrey Rush, and some of the work of Don Hertzveldt, an Oscar-nominated animator who has been described as 'the most inventive underground animator in America', 'a sensation at film festivals' and 'a flat-out genius'. And in between those classy items there will be some truly strange trailers from the '60s and '70s. It's a must for connoisseurs of the strange, the trashy and the darkly comic.
Doors open at 7.30 pm, films start at 8.15, and tickets are £6 on (01834) 869323 or at http://www.span-arts.org.uk/trailertrash2.htm">www.span-arts.org.uk/trailertrash2.htm
