Tenby Youth looked forward to meeting their old rivals Crymych who were last year's 'B' league winners. Always a fit and tough side, it was going to be a formidable challenge. The Tenby side had a number of forced changes in key positions again this week. Crymych, who were very quick to seize the advantage, ran in four early tries, mainly through poor Tenby tackling. The tries were all converted. The Tenby team dug deep and showed a lot of courage to withstand the onslaught. The back line had absolutely no room to move whenever the ball was moved out wide. Young Steve Handicott had a horrid time throughout taking some very hard knocks, but he stood his ground well. At the break, Crymych were 28-0 up. Some changes were made to the Tenby line-up and with the wind advantage, the second half was started. It was up to Steve to gain position with some excellent kicking, despite the opposition reaching him well before the ball on many occasions. Alex Jenkins once again did the business in the lineouts, while hard running by Sam Smith and sniping runs from Rhys Thomas led to two excellent tries. Steve managed to convert one of them in the blustery conditions. Crymych were now on the receiving end, but stood fast with hard tackling. A break away by Crymych, moving the ball well from one end of the pitch to the other, ended with a well-taken try. Tenby soon had them under pressure again and Tom James crashed over out wide with support from his forwards. The other points for Tenby came from a Handicott penalty to make the final score 33 points to 20 to Crymych. A big welcome to Rob Tuttle and John Walker on their debut for the youth - both made a very useful contribution.
