The Pembrokeshire Crucial Crew team has been awarded the High Sheriff of Dyfed award, in recognition of its valuable service to the community. Dr. Ann Rhys, High Sheriff of Dyfed for 2006, recently presented John Gobbi, chairman of the Pembrokeshire Crucial Crew team, with a plaque acknowledging the award. The award ceremony at Trinity College, Carmarthen, saw Dr. Rhys present a number of awards to organisations and individuals for services to the community. Clr. Jamie Adams, cabinet member for highways, transportation, and asset improvement, thanked The High Sheriff for the invitation to the ceremony and for acknowledging the efforts of all the agencies involved in Crucial Crew over many years in Pembrokeshire. The local Crucial Crew Initiative will be holding its 14th annual event in October 2007 for primary school pupils aged 10-11 years of age. The event is a multi-agency programme aimed at educating children about safety issues and how to avoid dangers in the community. All the agencies provide a range of safety challenges for the two week-event, which is held at the Parkhouse Exhibition Centre at Withybush Showground, Haverfordwest. The agencies involved are Pembrokeshire County Council's Road Safety Unit, Food Safety Unit, Waste Awareness Unit, and School Transport Team, Dyfed Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire Service, Western Power, Pembrokeshire Domestic Abuse team, National Farmers Union, MCA (HM Coastguard), and the Ambulance Service. Chevron are the main sponsors, with Powersave contributing to the event each year. For further information on Crucial Crew please contact John Gobbi, county road safety officer, at County Hall, Haverfordwest.
