A popular pub in Tenby and an Ironman contestant who drinks there, teamed up recently to raise funds to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Fifty-one-year-old Chris Spowart, who served as an Army physical training instructor for over 20 years, took on the Ironman Wales challenge to raise funds for Action Duchenne, as his four-year-old son Tomos has terminal disorder Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Chris, who hails from Brynamman but moved to Tenby recently, completed the Ironman event in 15 hours 50 minutes.
Raising money for DMD research, Chris has run marathons, done skydives, and completed the Three Peaks Shallenge.
Chris said he chose to take on the Ironman event to show people donating money that he was prepared to do anything to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
As soon as the owners and staff of the Crown Inn pub in Lower Frog Street heard that one of their regulars was taking on the Ironman contest, they set about fundraising for the cause, too, and on the day of the event raised £275.76 by selling breakfast rolls and collecting donations outside the inn, to add to Chris's own total of nearly £2,000.
