Carnival fever burst into Tenby on Wednesday when the town’s dedicated band of retained firemen held their annual event once again.
The spectacular event brightened up the town, with a colourful cavalcade of characters forming the parade for the Tenby Retained Firefighters Carnival.
The carnival always has a special place in the resort’s calendar and never fails to capture the imagination of the crowds that line the route of the procession or the numerous floats and fancy dress competitors taking part, and this year was no exception, with entrants from all walks of life joining the parade, including - Minions, mermaids, cowboys, dragons and even a few festival-goers from Glas10bury, getting into the spirit of the occasion!
Festivities kicked-off at the fire station on South Parade early in the day with food and refreshments served throughout the day, along with a raffle, demonstrations by the fire crew, and plenty of fun activities for the kids.
The carnival parade led by the town crier Jim Cornwell with the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, also in attendance, featured a high number of floats and fancy dress walkers, who marched through the town to the beat of the Samba Doc band, making their way from the railway station through to Tudor Square where the ‘wet zone’ showdown took place!
Then it was on down to the harbour, before the winners of the carnival classes for the different categories, and lorry-borne entrants were chosen by judges the Cummins family from Bath, and the Corrigan family from Cheshire.
Following the carnival, sponsors Tenby House held their annual charity night, an event where participants and firefighters themselves could relax and reflect on another great event for the town.
“Well the people of Tenby did it again, another fantastic parade!” said carnival chairman Rhys Thomas.
Once again, the main recipient of the money raised by Tenby’s dedicated band of retained firefighters during the course of the day will be the Firefighters Charity.
