A fantastic achievement by Wesley Cole from Carew in completing his first half marathon in Cardiff last weekend.
Wesley was inspired to take up road running after watching Ironman Wales around Pembrokeshire in 2014.
Along with his wife Carol and 30-plus others, he joined the inaugural meeting of Carew Running Club, and developed a passion for pounding the lanes of Carew and the surrounding area.
After he and Carol competed in the Mumbles 10k back in September, he wanted another challenge. And so the Cardiff Half Marathon it was. He could not have achieved his goal without support of Carew Running Club members Paul Mills, Huw Benbow, Chris Cole and Tammy Foley who joined him on Saturday training runs in all weather. He is also indebted to his wife Carol who ran with him, coaxed him out in bad weather and supported him when he didn’t think he could go any further
The final incentive was to run for the Rudy Trust Fund. Rudy, the son of Wesley’s nephew Matthew and wife Amy, has had physical and cognitive disabilities since birth.
A great accomplishment for someone whose previous longest run was the 22 yards between the wickets when playing cricket for Carew!
