Carew's supremacy at the top of the Ocky White Pembrokeshire Cricket League was dented on Saturday as they lost their unbeaten tag to mid-table Folly Farm Kilgetty.
Holding pole position since the start of the season, with seven wins and a draw under their belts, Carew went down to a 13-run defeat.
The Folly Farm Kilgetty side took first knock, easing their way to 176 for 9, with Simon Wood top scoring on 42 and Ian Poole and Windsor Royall also making an impression with 29 and 28, respectively. Poole's knock included six 4s.
Other double figure contributions came from Phil Jones (24) and Barry Wood (15 not out) , while pick of the Carew bowlers was Robert Scourfield, who took 4 for 39. John Canton and Aled Davies also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
When Carew replied, they were quickly in trouble as they lost their first three wickets with only 18 on the board.
Robbie Hicks helped repair the early damage with a sparkling 82 in 97 balls, including 12 struck fours, while Aled Davies gave valuable support with four 4s in his 25.
Their brave efforts were in vain, however, as veteran Barry Wood continued to make vital inroads with his accurate bowling and his final figures of 3 for 11 off 12 overs, including seven maidens, went a long way towards skittling the title candidates all out for just 163.
Son Simon also helped mop up the tail with three wickets, although he was a little more expensive (3 for 51), while wily bowling from spinner Nicky Evans saw him claim 3 for 38 - although Kilgetty were deducted six league points for a slow over rate.
Reigning champions Lamphey are not going to relinquish the crown without a fight, closing the gap on Carew with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Haverfordwest.
Taking first strike, the Town struggled to 29 for 4 in the face of fine bowling from Tim Hagger (2 for 28) and Nathan Gage (3 for 36), before a fifth wicket partnership of 74 between Paul Thomas (62) and Daniel Potter (18) helped them to a slightly more respectable 148 for 7 at the break.
However, the target was never really going to pose the villagers any problems, with big hitting skipper Dave Lovell (57) and Daniel Sutton (52) sharing an opening partnership of 94.
A cavalier innings from Craig Nutty was enough to finish the job in the 28th over, with his two 6s and two 4s easing Lamphey to 149 for 3 and victory.
Pick of the Town bowlers was Clive Tucker who claimed two Lamphey wickets for 23 runs.
The Cresselly batsmen are certainly hitting top form coming up to the halfway point in the season and they continued to go great guns on Saturday, with Simon Cole's top score of 102 helping them to 265 for 4 against Pembroke.
Cole was in imperious form, stroking the ball to all parts of the ground as his impressive knock included 12 fours and five towering sixes.
Skipper Richard Harris also had his eye in and also bagged a couple of sixes as he reached 70 not out and shared in a third wicket partnership of 100 with left-hander Cole.
The villagers eventually declared their innings in the 44th over, but their confidence proved misplaced, with Pembroke holding out to close on 176 for 8 and snatch a draw.
Huw Davies kept the scoreboard ticking over for the visitors with a whopping 13 fours in his tally of 66, while Colin Kaijaks also chipped in with a useful 34 and Barry Evans 20.
Jason Caine was Cresselly's most successful bowler with 3 for 54 off his 12 overs.
Basement battlers Narberth did their division one survival chances the power of good with a seven-wicket win over Lawrenny - although it was not enough to lift them out of the danger zone.
Accurate bowling by Ian Hughes (3 for 41) and Greg Morris (3 for 27) helped restrict Lawrenny to 170.
Main run-getters in that total were Chris Vincent with a well struck 44 and Ian Jenkins with 40, while Steve Lewis weighed in with a handy 27.
In reply, Wayne Howells (48) and David Johns (38) got Narberth off to a solid start, with Henry Wilson and Matthew Johns chipping in late on with 28 not out and 26 not out, respectively, to take the homesters to 172 for 3 and victory.
Steve Lewis picked up a couple of wickets for Lawrenny at a cost of 25, but in the end his efforts were in vain.
In the day's remaining game, Burton did little to ease their relegation fears, going down to Whitland.
Batting first, Burton set what looked a reasonably healthy target of 192 for 9 in their allotted overs, Chris Campbell top scoring with a fine half century.
Other useful contributions came from Roger Burns (38), Richard Hayman (35) and Oliver Sheldrake (22), while the wickets were shared among the Whitland bowlers, with Paul Webb being the pick of them with 2 for 49.
Skipper Webb was also in good form with the bat and after tea led by example as he got the Whitland reply off to a good start with a solid 39.
It helped set the tone of the visitors' innings and with other tidy knocks coming throughout from Dave Lee (23), Mike Lee (27), Mike Phillips (32) and Dylan Blain (21), they got home with four wickets - and one ball! - to spare.

Manorbier bounce back
Manorbier bounced back from last week's defeat with a comprehensive victory over Pembroke Seconds in division four of the Ocky White Pembrokeshire League on Saturday.
Manorbier were put in to bat and attacked from the start. Openers Jeremy Smith and Mike May put on a century opening stand in 20 overs, before Smith was bowled for 58. Jon Hughes (27) joined Mike May and forged a 66-run partnership, before May was bowled on 69.
Trevor Staley (11 not out) and Phil Lawrence (11) took the score on to 198 for 4.
In reply, Pembroke were in trouble against opening bowler Jon Hughes, who ended up with excellent figures of 5-26.
Pembroke were at one point 59 for 6, but experienced players Dave Jones (29) and Stuart Longhurst (21) made some recovery and kept the scoreboard ticking until occasional off-spinner Keith May (2 for16) took two important wickets assisted with catches from Justin Evans and Trevor Staley.
Wicket-keeper Phil Lawrence had a good game, taking two catches and stumping the number 10 batsman in the 39th over - the Pembroke innings finishing on 144 all out.
