In a truncated match, Haverfordwest retained the Duggie Morris Cup after defeating Pembroke by 64 runs in the postponed final played at Burton. In the first innings, Haverfordwest built up a mammoth total of 192 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs. Left-hander Phil Kirkby profited from being dropped five times to score 67 before being bowled by Nigel Phillips, having hit three 6 and nine 4s. Danny Potter scored 41 with six 4s, Stephen Phillips 36 not out and Karl Rhead 28 not out. In addition, there were 20 extras. Spinner Nigel Phillips took 1 for 26 and Anton John 1 for 43. In reply, Pembroke reached 102 for 6. Skipper Mathew Mitchell opened the batting and scored 46 not out, but only faced 41 deliveries after opening the innings for Pembroke. He hit one big straight six and three 4s. The only other batsman in double figures was the experienced Colin Kaijaks with 34 and three batsmen failed to score. Town skipper Adrian Griffiths took 2 for 17 and there was a wicket each for Phil Kirkby, Simon Williams and Stephen Phillips. In the second innings, Haverfordwest scored 39 without loss from six overs when rain prevented any further play. At that time, Phil Kirkby was 36 not out and Danny Potter 13 not out. Under the rules of the competition, the result of the match is determined by which side has scored the most runs in the first 15 overs of their first innings. At the end of 15 overs, the Haverfordwest total was 135 and the Pembroke total 71, so that the match was awarded to Haverfordwest. Not surprisingly, the man of the match was Phil Kikby. Although Pembroke were runners-up in the Duggie Morris Cup, they can take credit for having reached the final and for having achieved promotion from Division Two during a league season when they were only defeated on one occasion.
