Division One

An early finish at Herbrandston brought a premature end to the most exciting Division One title race in recent years, with Cresselly declared champions before the matches involving other contenders had finished.

It left Carew and Neyland playing for scraps and Carew's eight wickets win at home to Whitland clinched runners-up spot after Neyland were denied, having failed to match the Haverfordwest total of 253-7.

Herbrandston were bowled out for 67 after spinner Ryan Lewis had taken 5-15 for Cresselly and Sion Jenkins had taken 3-16 with his lively seam bowling.

Kristan Bennett top scored for Herbie with 16 and took one of the two wickets to fall, along with Dean John as the visitors reach 70 -2 without difficulty. It secured the title, with Simon Cole 37 not out, an innings which included two sixes and five fours.

Whitland took a depleted team away to championship contenders Carew and the visiting batsmen proved to be easy meat as Whitland were dismissed for 105.

David Dunfee top scored with 33 and Iestyn Scourfield chipped in with 24 as Tom Richards took 3-25 and Matthew Phillips 3-35.

Carew coasted to an eight wickets win on 106-2, as Tim Hicks followed up his two wickets with a quickfire innings of 64 not out from 42 balls, including five sixes and six fours.

He added 63 for the second wicket with Nick Scourfield who scored 20.

Neyland were in the unaccustomed position of chasing leather throughout the afternoon at Haverfordwest, who scored 253-7.

Simon Holliday was bowled by Nick Koomen's first ball for a splendid innings of 99, after hitting 15 fours and one six. He featured in a second wickets partnership of 155 with Ben Field, who scored 67.

Adam James maintained the momentum by scoring 30 off 19 balls.

Koomen ended with 4-29 and scored 31 in the Neyland total of 197 all out.

It would have been lower had not skipper Andrew Miller with 57 and Henry Durrant with 65 not added 74 for the eighth wicket.

Adam James followed up his batting to take 3-61 and Nathan Banner finished with 3-40, with the other wickets falling to spin twins Clive Tucker and Simon Holliday.

Saundersfoot challenge for the title appeared to fall away after the team were knocked out of the Harrison-Allen Bowl in the semi-final at Pembroke Dock.

At St Ishmaels, although skipper James Caine scored 62 not out, the depleted visitors were bundled out for 88, as James Salter took 5-24 and Andrew Pawlett 4-34.

Tish knocked off the runs without loss, as Peter Bradshaw with 48 not out and Danny Howells with 43 knocked on, which included six fours and one six, took their team to a winning total of 93 for no wicket.

Narberth travelled to Lawrenny, where Robert Williams declared with the Lawrenny total on 150-8. It was a ploy to restrict the Narberth tally of bowling points in a potential relegation battle.

Andrew Cole Senior returned to form with 85 including 10 fours and two sixes and was supported by Hugh Griffiths with 23 as Jordan Howell took 3-25 for the visitors.

In reply, Narberth reached 121-8 as leg-spinner Phil Cole took 5-47.

Ben Hughes with 28 not out and his cousin Ian Hughes with 19 not out, combined in an unbroken ninth wicket partnership, after Michael Scale with 22 was the only early or middle order batsman to make an impact. Both teams will survive for another season in Division One.

Division Two

Cresselly Seconds won by a margin of 123 runs at home to Johnston, after scoring 252-8 declared.

Nick Davies with 64 and Nicholas Jones with 39 put on 100 exactly for the second wicket.

Richard Harris with 55 and Iwan Izzard with a quick 28 not out maintained the runs scoring. Nicky Davies picked up three wickets for the visitors who were bowled out for 129. Most of those runs came from Mark Morgan with 53 and Jamie Lewis with 22, as Edward James took 3-20 for Cresselly Seconds to finish as runners-up.

The result kept Lawrenny in Division One for another season.

The controversial decision to pump first team players into the Whitland Seconds team at home to Haverfordwest Seconds produced dividends.

A fine innings of 73 from Wayne Jones supported by James Davies with 35 and later by Paul Oeppen with 38 not out took the Whitland team to a total of 206-7. James Morris took 4-55 for the visitors, who were bowled out for 103 in reply.

Off-spinner Paul Webb proved to be the match winner with 6-41, supported by skipper Stuart Harris with 3-9.

Mike Jones with 32 and Filgi Varghese with 24 were the leading scorers for the Harfat team.

Whitland Seconds avoided relegation by a margin of 20 points.

Pembroke Dock will return to Division Three after the Dock were bowled out for 172 in reply to a total of 232-6 declared posted by the visitors Hook.

Jamie Phelps hit four sixes and 11 fours in his 79 and received support from Brennan Martin with 58 not out, William Gronwy with 39 and Keith James with 23.

In the Dock reply, Luc Barford led the run scoring with 46, which included four sixes and three fours, backed up by Nick Daley with 32 and Chris Boyett with 31.

Matthew Holder took 5-31 for the visitors.

Carew Seconds scored 166 before being dismissed away to Division Two champions Llangwm, for whom Ollie Davies took 6-18. Haydn Shapcott scored 46 and Ben Evans 21, before skipper Christian Phillips boosted the total with 33.

In crepuscular conditions Carew wrist-spinner Ceri Brace posed problems of Byzantine complexity and was prepared to concede a few runs with the object of taking wickets.

Although William Beresford scored 52, Ollie Davies 23 and the steadfast Jonathan Twigg 21 not out, Brace ended with the rewarding match-winning figures of 8-62.

Division Three

League Champions Pembroke made short thrift of the Carew Thirds batting line-up after Jonathan Rogers took 5-23 to dismiss the home team for 58.

Matthew Whitfield top scored on 16 and then caused Pembroke problems of their own as he took 3-25 and the leaders lost six wickets before reaching a winning total of 59. Phil Hay led the run scoring with 28.

Strengthened by an influx of first team players, Johnston Seconds scored 202-7 at home to the visitors Lamphey, who were a player short at the start of the match and lost another at the tea interval.

Steve James scored 57 for the Johnston team, backed up by Lee Walters with 37 and Steve Mills Junior with 32.

Skipper Jason Oatley was the pick of the Lamphey bowlers with 4-32 and although he scored 19 he was unable to prevent Lamphey from being dismissed for 88.

Lee Summons took 5-24, but could not remove Rob Mathias who finished with 33 not out.

Narberth Seconds were bowled out for 114 at home to Llechryd as John Curran took 4-13 for the visitors.

Iwan Bowen-Rees with 67 provided the main resistance, but the Narberth bowlers were unable to make the same impression as Llechryd won by six wickets with a total of 118-4 to avoid relegation at the expense of Kilgetty.

Skipper Rhys Beard was the leading scored with 36, including six fours and one six supported by Steve Curran with 22 not out.

Excellent batting by Jake Marsh with 79 including three sixes and six fours, supported by skipper Anthony Bevan with 37, Robert Beynon with 28not out and opener Neil Powling with 27 took Kilgetty to a total of 212-5 at home to Crymych.

The visitors crawled to a total of 119-5 with Jacob Lloyd 47 not out, backed up by skipper Eurig Lewis with 29.

Division Four

Hundleton cam close to upsetting the applecart after losing by just four runs away to runners-up Haverfordwest Thirds who were bowled out for 95. Craig Williams took 3-29 and Ben Adams 3-41, with Julian James scoring 21 for the home team.

The consistent Jonathan Williams scored 37 not out, but Simon Williams took 3-19 and Ashley James 3-45 with the result that Hundleton were dismissed for 91.

Lawrenny Seconds will be relegated despite defeating Hook Seconds by 104 runs.

Jonathan Mathias with 65 and Matthew Lewis with 21 not out, were the main run getters in the total of 168-8 scored by the Lawrenny team. Elgan Roberts took 3-30 and Josh Bolt 3-36 for Hook Seconds who were bowled out for 59.

Stuart Prosser with 4-13 and John Fuller with 3-9 tore through the batting line-up.

Llangwm Seconds were bowled out for 175 away to Cresselly Thirds after contributions of 51 by Lyn Rees and 50 by Jonathan Brock.

Richard Arthur triggered their collapse with bowling figures of 5-5.

The Cresselly team then held on for a draw on 139-6, after Steve Wilkins found the boundary six times in his innings of 35 and he received support from Patrick Elliott with 30 and James Oakley with 24.

Division Five

St Clears clinched the Division Five Championship with a comprehensive win at home to St Ishmaels Seconds who were bowled out for 81 chasing a Saints total of 237-8.

Skipper Andrew Edwards led from the front in a brilliant innings of 120 not out, which included 15 fours and one six.

He was supported by Nathan Evans with 28 and Alec Weston 20.

David Salter took 4- 25 for the visitors and Ryan Rees 3-37.

Rob Morgan then ripped through the Tish batting with a 4-10 spell supported by figures of 2-8 by Nathan Evans as Daniel Richards was the only batsman rise above the parapet with 23.

Impregnated by first team players, Saundersfoot Seconds scored 240-5 before declaring at home to Herbrandston Seconds, who were bowled out for 183 in reply.

Nick Cope scored 98 with 11 sixes and two fours, backed up by Simon Stanford with 48, Steve Cole with 25 not out and Sam Franklin with 21.

Sam Franklin then took 4-20 when the visitors batted, when the hard hitting Johnnie Lewis had six sixes in his inning of 50 and Ashley Britton scored 33.

Ian Abbott with 34 including five sixes and Robert Kingston with 24 not out had a last wicket partnership of 60 to boost the Herbie total as the win clinched promotion for the Seasiders.

St Florence ended the season with an exciting two wickets win to clinch third spot in the most competitive Division in the league.

In the game at Fishguard, Rhys Dalling scored 91 with six sixes and nine fours and David Haynes 51. Their batting enabled Fishguard Seconds to declare on 192-7.

Ashley Smith took 3-13 for the visitors and then top scored with 70, which included six sixes and six fours.

James Phillips was only one run behind, with 69 and his father Barry Phillips finished on 22 not out in a total of 195-9. Four Fishguard bowlers picked up two wickets each.

Pembroke Seconds had the better of a drawn encounter at home to Haverfordwest Fourths.

It was a close call as the visitors finished on 174-6 after Paul Maggs scored 75, with both Andrew Phillips and the up and coming Kieran Griffiths scoring 21.

Danny Williams took 3-33.

When the Pembroke team batted earlier, a number of players made starts without reaching a big score. Kevin Jenkins scored 37, Don Patel 29, Andrew Price 28 and Chris Thomas 23.

After a gap of four years Paul Phillips came out of retirement to join his young son Liam in the local derby at home to Whitland Thirds.

Phillips showed that class was a permanent thing in an innings of 102 not out supported by opener Sam Mills with 55 and Sean Thomas with 23.

Whitland used eight bowlers to no avail and were then dismissed for a disappointing total of 37 as Connor Bowen took 3-21 and Nathan Lloyd 3-6.

Sam Hodson top scored for the visitors on the ground at Llanddewi Velfrey which the teams share, with 18 and Liam Phillips capped a game to remember as he picked up two wickets.

Division Six

Crymych Seconds lost by just one run at home to Division Six runners-up Camrose and Spittal Seconds.

The Camrose and Spittal team were bowled out for 134 with John Evans having a defiant knock of 31 not out as Andrew Thomas took 3-36.

The Crymych team were coasting to a comfortable win after Billy Gray had scored 40 and Charlie Howell 34.

However Gelly James with 4-35 and John Ryan with 3-20 triggered a middle and lower order collapse so that the home team were dismissed for 133.

Although Mervyn Ward scored 30 and Steve Harding 21, Llechryd Seconds were bowled out for 92 by Division Six Champions Pembroke Dock Seconds.

Man of the match Luke Murray took 5-16 backed up by Neil Hallett with 3-12 and Jonathan Hay with 2-9.

Murray then put the Llechryd bowling to the sword with 55 not out and his opening partner Jake Griffiths providing the ideal foil with 25 not out as the pair completed a 10 wickets win for the visitors on 93 without loss.

Third place Hundleton Seconds scored 146-9 at home to Llanrhian Thirds.

Consistent batting down the order enabled the Hundleton team to get the runs after Mark Williams scored 41, with both Terry Broadhurst and Steve Williams reaching 20.

Dave Burrows also scored 20 for Llanrhian Thirds who were bowled out for 73 as Paul Edwards took 4-21.

Lamphey Seconds scored 196-7 at home to Burton Thirds. It was a total which owed much to the father and son combination of Haydn Cole and Scott Brunton, with Brunton leading the way with a fine innings of 61, backed up by Cole with 49.

Daniel Ridge took 4-33 for Burton Thirds and then top scored with 27 as the visitors were bowled out for 91.

Once again it was the Cole and Brunton double act, with Brunton taking 4-21 and Cole 2-32.
