In an exciting game at Waunarlwydd, a try by flanker Craig Barnett with the last move of the match gave Narberth Athletic a win to kick off the new campaign in the Carmarthen Tyre Services Championship West Wales Premier League.
Waunarlwydd scored a converted try within the first 10 minutes and the Narberth team replied with a well worked touchdown by Craig Barnett, converted by outside-half Andrew Davies, who was making his debut for the side.
The home team scored again with a converted try and Narberth answered with a Davies penalty, but the pressure from the opposition soon began to show.
Waunarlwydd scored a further unconverted try on the stroke of half-time to increase their lead.
In the second half, a pep talk from the Narberth coaches brought about a golden period for the visitors, with tries from number eight Derek Lewis and winger Tom Dennis, one of which was converted by Andrew Davies.
A further penalty by Waunarlwydd levelled the scores at 22-22, before Waun regained the lead with a penalty and drop-goal.
In mounting tension, the Athletic produced a cracking last minute try by Craig Barnett with a break of 70 yards, which was converted by Andrew Davies from the touchline in a nail-biting finish.
