Oliver Simon, of Tenby Leisure Centre, and Lucy Peach, of Narberth Rugby Club B team, are Pembrokeshire's first individual sporting superstars. The pair were crowned the individual superstars for their consistent and impressive performances over the wide range of events organised at Pembrokeshire's first Superstars competition held at the Lewis Lloyd ground, Narberth. The inaugural county Superstars event was staged as a partnership between Narberth Rugby Club and Pembrokeshire Leisure - the sporting arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - and was so successful that arrangements are already in hand to repeat the competition in 2008. Teams from the leisure centres at Crymych, Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and Tenby competed, along with three teams from Narberth Rugby Club and a team from the Martin James Health and Fitness Club, of Kilgetty. Each team consisted of three male and three female competitors who took part in 10 events which included relay races, target golf, a rowing challenge, basketball and football skills, power ball throwing and gym tests. Following an afternoon of intense competition and enjoyment, the Narberth Rugby Club B team were crowned the overall team winners, with the Narberth Rugby Club A team second and Tenby Leisure Centre third. In the individual competitions, Richard Davies, of Narberth Rugby Club A team, and Nick Jones, of Narberth Rugby Club B team, were the joint runners-up behind Oliver Simon, of Tenby Leisure Centre. In the female individual event, Trona Proctor, of the Martin James Health Club, and Cathy Linge, of Tenby Leisure Centre, were the joint runners-up to Lucy Peach, of Narberth Rugby Club B team. During the morning, a junior superstars event was held for members of Narberth Rugby Club junior sections. Following a similar format to that of the team event, 24 children competed in two age groups. The overall winners were: Damien Miller (Year 7 and 8 boys), Florence Bowen Rees (first Year 7 and 8 girls), Beatrice Bowen Rees (second Year 7 and 8 girls) and Andrew Williams (Year 9 and 10 boys). Speaking to Observer Sport after the competition, Martin Williams, chairman of Narberth RFC rugby committee, said: "Everyone who came along enjoyed the competition and the range of events on offer. We are most grateful to Pembrokeshire Leisure and the volunteers from Narberth Rugby Club who ensured that the day was such a success, with all the competitors vowing to train extra hard for next year's event which we have agreed to arrange by popular demand. "Gary Nicholas, the leisure services officer for Pembrokeshire County Council, worked very hard in organising the teams from the leisure centres and we were also most grateful to Simply Prints, of Tenby, for taking photographs."
