Pembrokeshire County Council intend to carry out a full review of street trading byelaws across the county by February of next year.

The decision follows a call made by Tenby councillors recently to the county council to remove unauthorised activities and illegal trading on the street's of the resort.

When councillors met with Marc Owen and Debbie George, of the county council's streetcare department, the officers also suggested that a certain number of spots could be identified for authorised street traders and that these pitches could be allocated on a first come, first served basis, providing the activity met the guidelines as to what the town felt was acceptable.

Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism have also given their backing to this approach, reported the town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, to councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.

Mr. Davies also revealed that the county council's director of transportation and environment, Mr. Ian Westley, had given Mr. Owen, of the streetcare department, the go-ahead to carry out a review of street trading byelaws across Pembrokeshire.

"It seems that like Tenby, Haverfordwest has also been blighted by illegal trading recently," commented Clr. Mike Evans.
