Pembrokeshire Under 11s 175 for 1
Eryri 122 for 9
Pembrokeshire made the long journey to Llanrwst to play their counterparts from Eryri on Sunday. The majority of the team stayed overnight and an enjoyable evening was spent at Betws-y-Coed. Two of the players travelled up on the morning and arrived at 9.15 am after a four-hour journey, as one Mum had been to see 'Take That' at the O2 stadium the day before!
The game was reduced to 35 overs due to the rain that was predicted. A tremendous effort by Llanrwst CC and their dedicated ground staff where the covers came on and off at least eight times, to allow the game to be played to a conclusion.
Asked to bat first, Alex Codd and Kurtis Marsh put on 37 in 12 overs before Codd (7) was bowled by Jack Sissons. This was to be the only wicket for Eryri, with Kurtis batting for 35 overs for 62 n.o. (seven 4s) and Scott Jones 63 n.o. (10 fours). Both batted extremely well, with no chances given. There were shots all around the ground, with Kurtis cutting well and strong off his legs and Scott driving hard through mid-off and the covers. One particular over went for 18 runs and Pembrokeshire ended up on 175 in their 35 overs.
Pembrokeshire opening bowlers, George Williams and Greg Thompson, bowled their usual economical spells, but it was left to Tomos Lewis and Thomas Pritchard to take the first wickets.
Geraint Jones clean bowled Adam Thomas for 24 and Ewan Meredith, bowling for the first time, picked up two wickets - Ryan Bean (13) and Jack Hughes (18), with the Eryri middle order decimated.
It was at this time that the rain intervened on numerous occasions and both sides did well to continue.
The Pembrokeshire fielding continues to improve with each game and there were three excellent run outs by Jacob Knox, Jack Parkinson and Scott Jones, aided by Phillip Llewellyn.
Alex Codd took the ninth wicket and Eryri ended on 122-9 in their 35 overs.
Avril Platten did an excellent job of scoring, which must surely be worth a drink or two. It was lovely to hear the umpires comments that of the three regional games he had taken part in, the Pembrokeshire team were the most well mannered, with excellent behaviour, but still remained competitive.
The team started their long journey home at 5.15 pm, only for an accident at Dolgellau to block the road and add two hours to a long journey. Fish and chips at Barmouth was scant reward and at the end of the day, bed was long overdue.
Team players were: Alex Codd (Neyland), Kurtis Marsh (Kilgetty), Scott Jones (Neyland), Phillip Llewellyn (Neyland), Geraint Jones (Whitland), Jack Parkinson (Carew), Tomos Lewis (Carew), Ewan Meredith (Kilgetty), Jacob Knox (Carew), George Williams (Neyland), Greg Thompson (Stackpole), Thomas Pritchard (Neyland).
