Division One

Cresselly have leapfrogged over Carew into second place behind Haverfordwest in Division One of the Antur Insurance Pembroke County Cricket League after getting the better of a drawn match at Carew on Saturday.

Batting first, Cresselly reached 269-7 as the lower order batsmen boosted the run rate.

Skipper Simon Cole scored 70, with nine 4s and two 6s, with both Andrew Harris and Adam Chandler reaching 41, supported by Lyn Richards with 34no.

Tim Hicks took 3-53 for Carew, who were given an excellent start by Nick Scourfield and Ian Sefton in an opening partnership of 109 after 20 overs. It ended when Sefton was bowled by spinner Ryan Lewis for 67, having hit three 6s and ten 4s.

Scourfield went on to have a cultured 103no, with four 6s and eight 4, and Tim Hicks chipped in with 31.

Carew were unable to give their innings a big boost in the closing overs and the match ended in a draw with Carew on 241-4.

In a mid-table battle, Lawrenny snatched a last ball win at home to Neyland by just one wicket chasing a Neyland total of 182-7.

Neyland skipper Andrew Miller celebrated his selection as the May player of the month with a superb innings of 106, before being run out, and added 69 for the second wicket with Scott John ,who scored 26.

Opening bowler Robert Williams did not take a wicket, but only conceded six runs in 12 overs, with Steve Lewis and Richard Prout picking up a brace each.

When Lawrenny replied, Steve Lewis scored 47, James Buckle 27, Brad McDermott Jenkins 25 and Barry Phillips 20.

In addition, Ian Jenkins was 36no at the end and scored a four off the last ball of the match to give his team victory as Lawrenny continued to chase despite losing two wickets in the last over.

Spinner Phil Davies took 4-49 for the visitors.

The local derby at Whitland ended with a five runs win for the visitors Narberth, who had been bowled out for 167. Marc Hughes top scored with 71no, including three 6s and eight 4s, supported by his brother Ian, who scored 24.

Whitland skipper Mark Lee took 4-47 and Matthew Davies 3-34.

Although Kevin Pearce scored 54 and David Lee 44, excellent bowling by Ben Quartermaine with 5-37 gave the visitors victory as he trapped Pearce leg before wicket with one ball of the match remaining.

Whitland had also had the benefit of 25 extras.

In another local derby at Llangwm, visitors Hook won by 10 wickets after dismissing Llangwm for 152. The main contributions came from Joseph Kiff with 38 and Ian Brock with 20 as Jamie Phelps took 4-27, Matthew Rowlands 3-32 and Brennan Martin 2-32.

Ben Field dominated the Hook reply, with Jamie Phelps providing the ideal foil as Hook reached 153 without loss in reply. Field finished with 106no, including four 6s and 14 fours and Phelps was on 39no.

St. Ishmaels scored 221-3 at Haverfordwest through consistent batting, with Andrew Williams 65no, Jonathan Pawlett 57, Peter Bradshaw 45 and Stewart Kimpton 32.

Haverfordwest held out for a draw on 214-8. Danny Potter led the victory bid with 99, before being trapped with his pads in front by Jonathan Pawlett. Karl Rhead scored 32 and Adam James 29 in a second wicket partnership of 76 with Potter.

Jonathan Pawlett finished with 3-40 and Daniel Flynn 3-54.

Division Two

Although Carew Seconds won by three wickets in their away match against Cresselly Seconds, the Cresselly team still lead the table, but now only by one point from Saundersfoot, and Carew Thirds have crept into third place just two points behind Saundersfoot.

Cresselly Seconds scored 181-7. Steve Thomas had an aggressive innings of 46, with five 4s and two 6s, and another left-hander Matthew Lewis had a quickfire 30, Neil Williams scored 39 and young Iwan Izzard 20.

Matthew Lewis and Steffan Davies each took two wickets for the visitors, who won in the last over with four balls remaining upon reaching 182-7. Wayne Cannon with 46 and Andrew Harries with 31 had an opening stand of 71 and the good work was continued by Aled Griffiths with 55 and Matthew Phillips with 25no.

Matthew Lewis took 3-45 for Cresselly Seconds.

Saundersfoot have started to click and, although the visitors Stackpole scored 212 before being dismissed, Saundersfoot won by eight wickets with a total of 216-2.

Andrew Hay scored 92 for the visitors, John Williams 30 and Richard McKay 29. David Parcell took 4-48 and Kevin Sykes 3-40.

Teenager Sam Butler had a composed innings of 64no with 10 fours and one five and Paul Mansbridge scored 66no in a third wicket unbroken match-winning stand of 128. Earlier, Steve Cook had batted steadily for 34.

Pembroke had a comfortable win at Burton after scoring 205-6. Dan Williams scored 68, Spencer Harries 38no on a long-awaited welcome return to the Pembrokeshire cricketing scene and Daniel Scourfield 31.

Burton were bowled out for 161 in reply as Perry Phillips took 3-43 and his father Nigel 3-22. Mike Venables with 39 and Richard Hayman with 35 offered the most resistance.

In other Division Two matches, Johnston won by five wickets at home to Herbrandston, who were bowled out for 183, and Fishguard had the better of an extremely high-scoring draw against Haverfordwest Seconds, who scored 273-7 in reply to a Fishguard total of 283-5.

Division Three

Whitland Seconds extended their lead at the top of the table with a six wickets win away to Hundleton, who were held to 160-9. Jonathan Williams scored 56, Morgan Allen 33 and Mark Williams 25. Daniel James took 3-24 for the visitors, who reached 163-4 in reply.

Scott Newton showed that he could play cricket as well as rugby with a fine innings of 62, the experienced Meyrick Rowlands scored 37 and Shane Morgan was 28no as Richard Allen took 3-30 for Hundleton.

Lamphey crashed to a six wickets defeat away to Crymych, who scored 142-4 in reply to a Lamphey total of 138 all out.

Stephen Vale rescued the Lamphey innings and helped to raise it from 30-5 to 138 with a swashbuckling innings of 42, with three 6s and five 4s, Jason Oatley scored 22 and Gianlucca Trimarco 21.

Crymych skipper David Deardon took 3-31 and Dai Jenkins 3-48.

Deardon also scored 21no in support of an attacking innings of 43no by Osian Wyn in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 68. Earlier, Elgan Vittle had put Crymych on the road to victory with 40, before being bowled by Jason Oatley, and Rob Nicholas scored 20.

Jamie White with 5-22 and David Dunfee with 4-16 bowled Pembroke Dock to victory at St. Ishmaels as St Ishmaels Seconds were dismissed for 100 chasing a Dock total of 165-8.

Julian Edwards scored 32 for the visitors, supported by Nick Daley with 26 and John Davies with 22. Ryan Rees took 3-25 for Tish.

Narberth Seconds won by four wickets at home to Camrose and Spittal after bowling out the visitors for 132, despite the efforts of Phil Rees with 44 and David Morgan with 40.

Richard Howell took 5-15 and spinner Nick Evans 4-23.

Narberth Seconds reached 136-6 in reply, with Mike Johns scoring 38, with eight 4s, and Mike Williams an aggressive innings of 38no, mostly in boundaries off just 12 deliveries. Darren Osborne took 3-25 for the visitors.

Division Four

Pembroke Seconds have moved to the top of the Division Four table after picking up the bulk of the points in their drawn home match against Lawrenny Seconds, who were held to 120-9 chasing a Pembroke total of 173-9.

Andrew Price scored 59 of the runs for Pembroke Seconds, supported by Paul Rogers with 31, as Ben Cole took 5-46 for the visitors and Stephen Rees 3-22.

The ageless David Jones scored 25, as did Steve Campbell, in the Lawrenny reply, but excellent bowling by Kevin Jenkins with 6-26 and by Andrew Price with 3-30 gave Pembroke Seconds the edge.

Kilgetty won their first game of the season away to Haverfordwest Thirds, who had been bowled out for 162, despite a seventh wicket partnership of 51 between Mark White, who scored 63, and Paul Jenkins with 26.

Andrew Evans took 4-20 and Anthony Bevan 4-34.

In reply, Kilgetty reached 168-4, following an opening partnership of 77 between Steve Flook with 51, including 10 fours, and Jake Marsh with 35.

Rob Beynon with 20 and Anthony Bevan with 22no maintained the momentum of the innings.

Division Five

Carew Thirds have opened up a gap of 39 points at the top of the table after holding on for a draw at home to Saundersfoot Seconds.

The visitors reached 188-8 following an innings of 68 by Mike Franklin, backed up by Roger Stanford with 27, as the pair added 62 for the fifth wicket and Paul Morris chipped in with 20.

The lively Dominic Hicks was the pick of the Carew bowlers with 3-33.

David Rees with 50no had the bulk of the runs for Carew Thirds in a total of 176-6, supported by Haydn Shapcott with 31 and Jeremy Griffiths with 29.

Mark Steward and Chris Parker both picked up wickets for the visitors.

Cresselly Thirds won by seven wickets away to Camrose and Spittal Seconds, who were dismissed for 74.

Skipper Gelly James bolstered the Camrose and Spittal total with a fighting innings of 40 as Cresselly skipper Philip James took 4-23 and Steve Davies 3-20.

Simon Allen-Clarke with 39 led the run chase as the visitors reached 75-3.

St Florence have moved up to third place in the table after restricting the visitors Whitland Thirds to a total of 98-7 in reply to a Saints total of 165-9.

Ashley Smith scored 51 with seven 4s and Peter Hall 36 for the home team as Gwyn Phillips took 4-29 for the visitors and Justin Watson 3-25.

Peter Wright and Jack Bowen both scored 25 in the Whitland reply and Neil Powling took 3-30 for St Florence.

Division Six

Pembroke Dock Seconds salvaged a draw at home to Fishguard Seconds, who scored 217-5. Sam Kurtz with 72, Bernie Armstrong with 62 and Paul Davies with 30 were the main run scorers as Andrew Wood took 3-47.

James Olyott held the Dock innings together with 46 and Christian Parsley with 20no in a total of 109-9. James Wade took 4-17 for the visitors.

Narberth Thirds overwhelmed the visitors Burton Thirds, who fulfilled the fixture even though they travelled with just eight players.

The Narberth team scored 245-6, with Neil Rossiter 100no having hit 10 fours and a six.

Hard-hitting left-hander Brynley Toms with 87, including 12 fours and two 6s, added 186 in a fifth wicket partnership with Neil Rossiter.

Robert Ridge took 4-73 for Burton Thirds, who were bowled out for 33 in reply, with Daniel Ridge the only player in double figures on 12.

Brynley Toms took 3-14 and there were two wickets each for Jordan Howell and Iwan Bowen Thomas.

Hundleton Seconds lost by just two runs away to Stackpole Seconds, who had scored 156-10 following an innings of 81 by Roger Lewis.

Carl John took 3-20 for the visitors, who had reached 154 in reply. Steve Williams scored in the victory bid as Phil Tallett took 3-21 for Stackpole Seconds.

Lamphey Seconds were bowled out for 52 after the visitors Llanrhian Thirds had posted a total of 163, with Joseph Harding scoring 41 and David Burrows 31.

Haydn Cole took 3-33 for Lamphey and Barry Dilworth 3-45.

Cole top scored for the Lamphey team with 16 as Matthew Harries took 4-24 and Russell Watkins 3-4.
