Division One
Not for the first time, Lawrenny find themselves top of Division One early in the season in the Antur Insurance Pembroke County Cricket League.
Pole position was attained after Lawrenny had a comfortable away win against newly promoted Hook. The visitors scored 185 for 7 and bowled out Hook for 112 in reply.
Consistent batting by James Buckle with 39, Barry Phillips with 33 and James Phillips with 29 not out set up the Lawrenny total as Matthew Holder took two wickets for Hook.
In reply, apart from Ben Field with a fighting 37 which included two 6s and three 4s, the Hook batsmen struggled as Steve Lewis took 3 for 22 and paceman Robert Williams 3 for 28.
Whitland's nine runs away win at Cresselly raised some eyebrows, but it was not quite such a surprise to those who have witnessed league matches between the teams in previous years.
Matthew Davies was the Whitland hero as the visitors scored 177 for 7. He restrained his natural attacking instincts to score a fine 78 before being out caught by Cresselly skipper Simon Cole off the bowling of James Venables from the last ball of the Whitland innings.
Paul Davies supplied the main support in a second wicket partnership of 75 and Kevin Pearce chipped in with 23. Richard Harris was the pick of the Cresselly bowlers with 2 for 36.
Whitland won with one over to spare as Stefan Jenkins was caught appropriately by Matthew Davies in front of the balcony off the bowling of Mark Lee.
Earlier, Cresselly were comfortably placed at 85 for 1, but were reduced to 116 for 7.
James Venables scored 41 and Simon Cole 39 and, although Cresselly chased down the runs to the end, the innings closed on 168 with one over left.
For Whitland, Paul Webb took 3 for 35 and Mark Lee 3 for 48.
Title holders Haverfordwest had a comfortable nine wickets win at Narberth after restricting the home team to a total of 138 for 7.
Experienced opener Mike Johns battled hard in a patient innings of 31 and middle order batsman Wayne Howells held things together in his innings of 56 before he was bowled by Clive Tucker who finished with 2 for 31.
An opening stand of 121 between Danny Potter and Richard James made certain of the Haverfordwest win. Potter scored 50 off 61 balls and went on to reach 60 before being caught by Connor Lloyd off the bowling of Ian Hughes.
At the other end, Richard James was undefeated on 64 when the visitors reached a winning total of 141 for 1.
Matches between Neyland and Carew are hotly contested and on Saturday Neyland salvaged a draw on 143 for 9 in reply to a Carew total of 170 for 8 as Gareth Virgo survived a leg before appeal off the last ball of the match.
A third wicket partnership of 74 between Nick Scourfield with 44 and Simon Wood with 39 helped Carew reach the total and Phil Jones batted well for his innings of 30 not out.
Neyland skipper Andrew Miller had an excellent game, taking 6 for 44 with his leg spinners, three of which he caught off his own bowling and then top scored with 48 in the Neyland reply, supported by Scott John with 32 and Paul Murray with 28.
Carew skipper Rob Scourfield took 4 for 27 and spinner Ceri Brace 2 for 19.
Division Two
Herbrandston are top of the Division Two table with two wins out of two matches. On Saturday, the visitors Burton were bowled out for 81 and Herbie passed that total for the loss of just three wickets.
Pembroke had an emphatic 99 runs win at home to Fishguard, who were dismissed for 78 in reply to a Pembroke total of 177 for 9.
Sean Powell was man of the match for the Pembroke team after scoring 82 in the Pembroke innings and then taking 5 for 14 when Fishguard batted.
For Fishguard, Robert Couzens took 4 for 35 and Ben Watson 3 for 40, while David Haynes showed what a solid batsman he is with a fighting knock of 24 for the visitors.
Haverfordwest Seconds recovered from being 87 for 6 to reach 203 for 7 at home to Saundersfoot.
Mikey Jones led the way with 76, supported by Adam Raymond with 33 and Josh Wilment with 28.
Daniel Caine, Yannick Parker and Kevin Sykes each took two wickets for the visitors.
Saundersfoot also started badly and were reduced to 10 for 5. Daniel Caine then scored a superb knock of 60, including 10 fours, to give the visitors a more respectable total of 87 all out.
Nigel Delaney and Simon Williams did the damage for the Haverfordwest team, with Delaney taking 4 for 12 and Williams 4 for 22.
Cresselly Seconds reached a total of 171 for 5 at Stackpole.
Rhydian Rees continued his good form with 66, backed up by Steve Thomas with 36 not out and Neil Williams with 29.
Darrell Willington picked up 2 for 30 for Stackpole, who had a tremendous start in reply with an opening stand of 100 between Huw Cox and Josh Davies.
The partnership was broken when Davies was dismissed for 55, but Cox went on to score 59 not out with a six and 10 fours, backed up by Andrew Hay with 38 not out.
Carew Seconds were bowled out for 115 at home to Johnston, with both Adrian Harries and Matthew Phillips reaching a score of 27.
Lee Summons and Steve Mills both took 3 for 18 for the visitors, who won by nine wickets on reaching 117 for 1.
John Summons with 64 not out and Steve Mills with 32 not out had a match-winning second wicket partnership of 53.
Division Three
Division Three leaders Pembroke Dock reached a mammoth total of 266 for 4 at home to Hundleton, with Julian Edwards in total control in his knock of 152, which he will remember for the rest of his life.
Nick Daley provided support with 54 not out and Peter Kingdom scored 24.
Hundleton held on for a draw at 139 for 8, with Mark Williams scoring 25.
For the Dock, David Dunfee took 2 for 18.
Consistent batting without any individual high scores took Lamphey to a total of 150 for 9 at home to Narberth Seconds.
Nic Johnson showed his strokes in an innings of 30 and he had support from Hywel Gibbs with 25 and opener Peter McGilloway with 22.
Paceman Brynley Toms took 3 for 57 for the visitors and all-rounder Mike Williams 3 for 13.
When opener Emyr Jenkins was dismissed for 15, Narberth Seconds collapsed and no other batsman reached double figures as James Skeels took 3 for 13 and Grant Cole 3 for 25. Cole also had a direct hit run out.
Crymych crashed to their second successive defeat, this time at Whitland after being bundled out for 95 in reply to a Whitland Seconds total of 137 for 9.
Left-hander Edward John held the Whitland innings together with his cultured innings of 65 with eight 4s and a six as Dai Jenkins took 4 for 39 and skipper David Deardon 3 for 26 for the visitors.
Elgan Vittle showed what Crymych are missing when he is unavailable with an attacking innings of 54 not out, but Matthew Webb with 5 for 30 and the experienced Meyrick Rowlands with 3 for 34 made certain of a Whitland win.
Division Four
Lawrenny Seconds are at the other end of the Division Four table to their first team counterparts in Division One.
On Saturday, the Lawrenny team were dismissed for 103 by Hook Seconds, despite the fact that Lawrenny opener Stephen 'Pascoe' Rees held thing s together with a gritty innings of 67, which included two 6s and six 4s.
For the visitors, David Petrie took 4 for 27 and Jake Wilks 3 for 23.
Hook Seconds won by six wickets with a total of 104 for 4 after William Gronwy scored 55 not out and Nigel Badham 33.
Stephen Rees and Jamie Lewis each took two wickets for Lawrenny Seconds.
Kilgetty debutant Ashley Murdoch top scored with 23 in the Kilgetty innings of 81 all out at home to Pembroke Seconds, backed up by skipper Richard Gwyther with 15.
Chris Thomas took 4 for 10 for the visitors and Charlie Allen 3 for 17.
The visitors were made to fight for their runs as Rob Beynon took 2 for 27, but knocks of 18 by Colin Kaijaks, 17 by Tim Gould and 16 by Jonathan Rogers took the Pembroke team to a winning total of 85 for 6.
Division Five
Carew Thirds picked up their second win on the trot despite being dismissed for 102 away to Llanrhian Seconds.
Jeremy Griffiths top scored with 38, backed up by Mark Hicks with 22 and Wesley Cole with 20 not out, as Robert Jenkins took 5 for 22 and David Hamilton 3 for 21 for the home team.
Excellent bowling by leg-spinner Oliver Cole with 5 for 26 and another young player Joel Reed with 3 for 21 resulted in Llanrhian Seconds being dismissed for 94 to give the visitors an exciting eight runs win.
As so often happens, R. V. Jones led the scoring for the Llanrhian team with 20.
In the local derby at Saundersfoot, the visitors St Florence had the better of a drawn match after scoring 150 for 6 and holding Saundersfoot Seconds to 116 for 7 in reply.
Steve Wilkins scored 47 for the Saints supported by Jonathan Edwards with 29 and Justin Evans with 24.
Richard Cope took 3 for 30 for Saundersfoot Seconds and also top scored in the Saundersfoot innings with 30.
Mike Franklin and Grant Hardy both scored 26 as Jo Jo Phillips took 3 for 31 for the visitors.
Cresselly Thirds were bowled out for 77 at home to Llangwm Thirds who won by four wickets upon reaching 78 for 6.
The experienced Steve Davies held the Cresselly innings together with 41 not out, including seven 4s, as Oliver Davies took 4 for 27 and Josh Davies 3 for 33 for the visitors.
Lyn Rees made sure of a Llangwm win with 33 not out and Steve Davies was in the wickets again with 3 for 19.
The bowlers had a field day at the Llanddewi Velfrey ground shared by Whitland Thirds and Narberth Thirds.
Nevertheless, Whitland Thirds achieved a narrow one wicket win after dismissing Camrose and Spittal Seconds for 39. Ashley Evans took 7 for 6 and 13-year-old Justin Watson 3 for 12.
Colin John was the only Whitland batsman in double figures with 10, but when 13-year-old Geraint Phillips joined Gwyn Phillips at the crease the score was 31 for 9. The pair kept their wickets intact and scored the winning runs to take Whitland Thirds to a winning total of 40 for 9.
For the visitors, two experienced players, Rob John with 4 for 8 and Gelly James with 4 for 21 took the wickets.
Division Six
Crymych Seconds lead the table after their four wickets win at home to Lamphey Seconds in a low scoring reduced overs match.
After a delay for rain, Lamphey Seconds were bowled out for 44 as Alun Parry took 4 for 7. Haydn Cole was the only Lamphey batsman in doubles figures with 16.
In reply, Crymych Seconds reached 47 for 6, with Marc Thomas 10 not out.
Lamphey skipper Andrew Skeels took 3 for 19 and Guiseppe Tremarco 2 for 9.
Narberth Thirds won by two wickets away to Haverfordwest Fourths after dismissing the home team for 91.
Colin Slater top scored with 41 as Huw Simpkins took 3 for 43 for the visitors, supported by Iwan Bowen-Rees, Alun Phillips and Nathan Lloyd with two wickets each.
After a poor start, Iwan Bowen-Rees with 17, skipper Clive Jones with 16 not out and Alun Phillips with 15 took the visitors to a winning total of 94 for 9 with the help of 28 extras! Mark Hicks took 4 for 23.
Hundleton Seconds had a four wickets win away to Pembroke Dock Seconds after holding the home team to 96 for 7. Peter Jones provided the bulk of the runs with 46 as Dean Manning took 4 for 32 for the visitors.
Although Andrew Wood took 3 for 27, Hundleton got to 97 for 4 as Steve Eagles scored 30 and Steve John 16.
