Division One

Wins for the top three teams on Saturday means that there is no change at the top of division one of the Imperial Garages Pembroke County Cricket League. St Ishmaels had a comfortable nine wickets win away to Pembroke who were bowled out for 74. Fourteen year old Andrew Salter mesmerised the Pembroke batsmen with his off spin bowling to finish with six for 20 and all rounder Andrew Williams took three for 23. Phil Stephens and Kevin Jenkins both scored ten and Pembroke skipper Barry Evans 17. Following the dismissal of Andrew Salter, Peter Bradshaw and Jonathan Pawlett continued where they left off in the Harrison Allen Final and steered Tish to a winning total of 75 for one. Jonathan Pawlett hit two sixes and four fours in his knock of 38 not out and Bradshaw moved the ball into gaps to finish with 19 not out. Nigel Phillips was the solitary Pembroke wicket taker. Second placed Carew were at Narberth and bowled out the home team for 104. At one time Narberth were 48 for one but John Canton and Carew skipper Rob Scourfield took out the middle and lower order apart from Richard Adams who was 25 not out. Ian Hughes scored ten before giving a catch behind to Adam Hughes off the bowling of Rhys Davies and Narberth skipper Marc Hughes was also caught by Adam Hughes but off the bowling of spinner John Canton for 24. Although Paul Phillips scored 19 the bulk of the Narberth batsmen failed as John Canton took three for 22, Rob Scourfield two for 22 and Rhys Davies two for 18. The first wicket partnership of 49 between Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield put the visitors on the road to victory before Sefton was caught by Marc Hughes off the bowling of Richard Howell for 30. Scourfield remained secure at one end however and after Simon Wood was trapped leg before wicket by Richard Howell, Phil Jones joined Scourfield at the crease and was 16 not out at the end in support of Scourfield's 43 not out. Richard Howell was the most successful Narberth bowler and finished with figures of two for 26. On a day when there were many low totals, the exception to the rule was at Cresselly where the local derby between Cresselly and Lawrenny produced over 400 runs. The visitors batted first and reached 206 for seven principally due to a fifth wicket partnership of 121 between skipper Steve Lewis and Ian Jenkins. Lewis scored 87 in a fine exhibition of stroke play which included six sixes and six fours before he was bowled by Huw Neale. The partnership had been broken when Ian Jenkins was leg before wicket to Stefan Jenkins for 41. Somewhat surprisingly his innings included four sixes but no fours! Earlier opener Andrew Cole scored 27, Christian Phillips 19 and James Buckle 14. For Cresselly, Stefan Jenkins took two for 31, Huw Neale two for 42 and Richard Harris two for 46. In reply Cresselly scored 207 for five to win by five wickets. Acting skipper Simon Cole had a stylish innings of 71 before giving a return catch to Ian Jenkins after hitting one six and 11 fours. Adam Chandler was the other major contributor with 62 before being caught by former Cresselly player Hugh Griffiths off the bowling of Simon Cole. Andrew Harris scored 15, his opening partner Phil Williams 20 and Damian Arthur batted sensibly at the end to finish with 14 not out. For the visitors Simon Cole took three for 55. Burton made Haverfordwest fight all of the way for victory at the Racecourse in a match reduced to 41 overs per team. The visitors scored 155 for six. Chris Campbell top scored with 49 not out and added 62 for the third wicket with James Venables who scored 43 before being bowled by David Davies. James Venables had also been involved in a half century partnership with his brother Jonathan Venables who scored 39 with six fours. David Davies was the pick of the town bowlers and finished with three for 26 although Haverfordwest skipper Adrian Griffiths bowled his 11 overs for just 21 runs. Haverfordwest left it late to get the winning runs but Phil Kirkby hit the last ball of the match for two to enable Haverfordwest to reach a winning total of 156 for five. Kirkby was 56 not out backed up by Karl Rhead with 42 and Danny Potter with 32. Jonathan Venables finished with two for 27 and James Venables two for 32. Neyland were restricted to a total of 139 for nine in their away match at Whitland. Sean Hannon scored 32, Scott John 27, all rounder Phil Davies 26 not out and Paul Murray 19. Whitland skipper Paul Webb was the most penetrative bowler and finished with figures of four for 29 and his son Bobby who bowls medium pace finished with figures of two for 29. Teenager Jonathan Thomas and Paul Webb opened the batting and gave Whitland the ideal start with a first wicket stand of 103. Webb was the first to go trapped leg before wicket by spinner Gary Lloyd for 41 but young Thomas went on to score 58 with 11 fours. On their departure, some wickets fell but Paul Davies with 24 not out and David Lee with ten played their part in Whitland reaching 141 for six. Spinner Gary Lloyd finished with four for 37 and Jeremy Charles took two for 18. Division Two

Saundersfoot held on to fourth position in the table after getting the better of a drawn match away to home to Carew Seconds in a local derby. Saundersfoot were bowled out for 156. Young leg spinner Ceri Brace took five for 30, another young player Joe Kidney three for 40 and Rob Whitfield two for 21. Tight bowling by the Saundersfoot attack restricted Carew Seconds to a total of 122 for eight. Danny Cane followed up his batting to take four for 44 and Dan Trowers took three for 31. Martin Scourfield with 31 not out and Mathew Whitfield with 12 not out made things safe for the Carew team who finished on a total of 122 for eight. Earlier Nick Cope scored 21, Steve Ive 16 and David Rees 10 Struggling Lamphey were bowled out for 60 away to Hook with the most productive partnership being a last wicket stand of 22 between Ian Kerrison and Jason Oatley who finished on 17 not out. Opener Paul White with 15 was the only other batsman in double figures as Andrew Thomas with five for 15 and Jamie Phelps with four for 21 made the most of the conditions. Hook had a comfortable eight wickets win with Martyn Rees 24 not out, mostly in boundaries and Mathew Rowlands 21. There was no play at Fishguard in the match between Fishguard and Stackpole and Llechryd had something of a surprise three wickets win at home to Haverfordwest Seconds who were dismissed for 155. For Kilgetty wrist spinner Gareth Gwyther took two for 32 and pace man Anthony Bevan two for 20. Kilgetty have moved out of the relegation zone, at the expense of Narberth Seconds who paid the penalty for being unable to field a team to travel away to Herbrandston who were awarded 29 points. The Narberth skipper Gary Hughes found it difficult to believe that no team had been available to travel especially as in theory he had such a strong squad available on the night. Commenting after the match he said, "This has never happened before and it is very depressing after we had such a strong team on papers the night before. As a result we have dropped into the relegation zone so we must pull out all of the stops in the last three games of the season." Whitland Seconds won by three wickets away to Neyland Seconds who were bowled out for 140. Paul Miller scored 32, his brother Greg Miller 29 and Andrew Jones 19. The basement battle between St Florence and Maenclochog ended in victory for Maenclochog, moving them one step nearer to survival and the Saints one step nearer to relegation in their first season in division four. Put in on a soft pitch the Maenclochog batsmen found scoring hard-going. The 50 came up in the 19th over for the loss of just one wicket, but from then on their innings faltered against the bowling of Tommy Roberts and Peter Hall. Ten overs later and the Hog were all out for 72 with Tommy Roberts finishing with five for 13 from seven overs, whilst Peter Hall bowled his 12 overs for just 10 runs and one wicket. Richard Jones took the other two wickets to fall to bowlers. Tommy Roberts was indebted to Ashley Smith for two of his wickets as Smith held on to two excellent catches. The mainstays of the Maenclochog batting were Rob Nicholas and Wayne Jones, both falling on 19 and the only other batsmen in double figures was Jack Mason with 12. St Florence's frail confidence was dashed as soon as the second over as Peter Hall was run out cheaply and the remaining batting collapsed so that at one stage the Saints were six for nine and the game seemed all but over. But the Saints batsmen dug in, and fought it out, thanks mainly to the batting of Paul Parkinson in his first match for the Club. He scored 20 not out including a huge six over square leg, but no other Saints batsman could stay with him or get into double figures as St Florence were finally dismissed for 32 in the 28th over. The main wicket takers for the Hog were Rhys Davies with three for eight, Dai Jenkins with three for 10. Although Colin Kaijaks had a quality innings of 82 and Tim Gould scored 28 Pembroke Seconds were bowled out for 127 away to St Ishmaels Seconds.
