Division One

Carew won the Division One match of the day by 29 runs despite being restricted to a total of 149 for 7. Brian Hall got the innings off to a good start with a brisk 24, before falling to a diving catch by Julian Arthur at backward point off the bowling of spinner Simon Cole. Simon Wood cemented the innings together with a patient 34 from 83 balls, before holing out to Cresselly skipper Lyn Richards at long off from the bowling of Stefan Jenkins. Phil Jones chipped in with 18, Aled Davies with 13 and skipper Robert Scourfield scored 23 at a run a ball before he fell to a tumbling catch at mid-wicket by Lyn Richards off the bowling of Ryan Lewis. All-rounder Darren Thomas was 16 not out at the end. Stefan Jenkins took 3 for 35 bowling from the Gardens' end and earlier the experienced Phil James blocked off that end with 11 accurate overs during which he took 1 for 22. Ryan Lewis finished with 2 for 42 and Simon Cole 1 for 37. Cresselly appeared to be timing their reply to perfection during a third wicket partnership of 48 between Simon Cole and Damian Arthur after Julian Arthur had been bowled by Steve Ive for 17. However, Cole was trapped leg before wicket by spinner John Canton for 24 and Canton also bowled Damian Arthur for 27. Skipper Lyn Richards had a defiant innings of 26 before being caught by wicket-keeper Aled Griffiths off Darren Thomas, but the lower order batsmen were unable to salvage the situation and the last wicket fell when Phil James played on to Darren Thomas with the total on 120. Darren Thomas finished with 3 for 32 and Robert Scourfield had a decisive spell of 3 for 10, with the pair being backed up by John Canton and Steve Ive, who both took two wickets. Narberth had the edge during their drawn match at home to St. Ishmaels who could only reach 87 for 8 in reply to a Narberth total of 152 for 5. Opener Mike Scale laid the foundations for the Narberth total with an excellent innings of 52 before he was bowled by Jonathan Pawlett, and Wayne Howells scored 28. However, an unbroken seventh wicket partnership of 45 between Paul Philips and Ceri Jones gave the Narberth innings a late flourish. Phillips ended with 30 not out from 36 deliveries and Ceri Jones smashed two 6s and two 4s in his brief innings of 10 balls, during which he scored 25 not out. Opening bowler Jonathan Pawlett ended with 2 for 19 from his 12 overs for Tish and spinner Steve Williams took 2 for 39. The Tish batsmen were never let off the leash in reply, and no player reached 20. Steve Williams was the top scorer with 18, supported by Jonathan Pawlett with 16 and Robert Thomas with 12. Ian Hughes continued the fine form that he had shown at Whitland on the Bank Holiday Monday by taking 3 for 22 from 12 overs, while Richard Prout and Wayne Howells each took two wickets at a very low economy rate. All-rounder Oliver Cook made a welcome return to the side after missing the last couple of seasons and he bowled his seven overs for just 14 runs. After a slow start, Lawrenny built up a formidable total of 200 for 7 at home to Whitland. Andrew Cole junior scored 67 not out from 44 deliveries, including six 6s and three 4s, and added 93 for the seventh wicket in conjunction with Ian Jenkins, who anchored the Lawrenny innings with his knock of 27 from 63 deliveries. Earlier, Simon Cole scored 31 with five 4s and a six and opener Adrian Harries 22. Paul Webb and Owen Edwards each picked up two wickets for Whitland, but all the bowlers found it difficult to contain Cole, who maintained his record of putting Whitland bowlers to the sword. Cole and Jenkins plundered 83 runs from the last 10 overs. In contrast, the Whitland batsmen were unable to keep up with the required run rate after the departure of openers David Lee and Paul Webb for 33 and 25, respectively. Edward John chipped in with 19 and Owen Edwards made a lower order contribution of 19, but it was left to Meyrick Rowlands and Shane Morgan to bat out the last two and a half overs for a draw as Whitland finished on 130 for 9. Robert Williams took 3 for 21 from 12 accurate overs, Ian Jenkins 2 for 8 and Simon Cole also picked up two wickets. A lower order collapse triggered by Burton all-rounder Steve Jones resulted in Haverfordwest being dismissed for 147. Earlier, David Davies had scored 78 and Karl Rhead 41, but both fell to Jones who ended with 5 for 41, backed up by Kevin Roberts and John Scale with two wickets each. Pace man Simon Williams made an early breakthrough for the town team and ended with 5 for 51, backed up by skipper Adrian Griffiths with 2 for 28 and spinner Clive Tucker with 2 for 29. As might be expected, Steve Jones provided the most resistance with a defiant innings of 23, backed up by John Griffiths with 21. However, Burton were bowled out for 104 to give the town victory by 43 runs. With so many players unavailable, Lamphey struggled to get a team and then struggled on the field at home to Neyland, who totalled 215 for 8. The visitors lost early wickets as Hywel Gibbs took 3 for 8 in eight overs, but Neyland skipper Andrew Miller had an outstanding innings of 111 from 107 balls after hitting a six and 13 fours. So great was his contribution to the Neyland total that the next highest score was that of middle order batsman Phil Davies with 26, while Paul Murray and Phil Sutton each contributed 14. Jay Dunsford helped Miller add 55 vital runs for the fourth wicket before being trapped LBW by Will Silcox who ended with 2 for 37. Lamphey openers Hywel Gibbs and Rizwan Hassan put on 38 for the first wicket, but when Hassan fell leg before wicket to Jon Jones, it started a collapse and the Lamphey team were dismissed for 49, despite the efforts of Hywel Gibbs with 20 and Rizwan Hassan with 14. Spinner Phil Davies ended with the remarkable figures of 6 for 7 from seven overs and Jon Jones, who bowled his medium-paced deliveries at a lively pace, ended with 4 for 7 from eight overs.

Division Two

Carew Seconds were defeated by eight wickets away to Hook after being bowled out for 116. Mathew Phillips provided the backbone to the Carew total with 43, before being caught by Ross Martin off the bowling of Jamie Phelps, Gerald Hicks backed up with 18 and Robert Hicks with 16. Jamie Phelps, who has developed as an all- round cricketer (he can also keep wicket) took 5 for 15 from 11 overs, supported by Mathew Holder and Ross Martin with two wickets apiece. Brennan Lay and Jamie Phelps had an opening partnership of 99 to set up the Hook victory. Lay was bowled by Robert Hicks for 30, but Jamie Phelps enjoyed the luxury of being dropped five times before being caught by Martin Scourfield off the bowling of Scott Helmich for an innings of 70 with eight 4s. Saundersfoot and Llangwm were both relegated last season and the teams met at Llangwm on Saturday. Saundersfoot lost by 23 runs after being dismissed for 113 in reply to a Llangwm total of 135 for 9. Andrew Harries top scored with 32, supported by Sean Waller with 24 not out. For Saundersfoot, David Parcell took 3 for 20, Chris Parker 2 for 23 and Danny Caine 2 for 29. Ian Poole and Roger Stanford added 52 for the sixth wicket and when they were together the visitors were in with a shout of overtaking the Llangwm total. Teenager Chris Inward won the game for Llangwm with two outstanding bowling spells and finished with 8 for 22. Because of his age, the young quick bowler came off after seven overs, but returned to take three wickets in four balls as Poole fell for 36 with six 4s and Stanford for 23. Danny Brace scored 16, but it was Llangwm's day, with Inward doing the damage, while Andrew Phillips and Richard Brock picked up the other wickets to fall. Pembroke had a comfortable five wickets win at home to Fishguard, who were bowled out for 121. Spinner Nigel Phillips took 6 for 25 and Martin Fletcher 1 for 20. Wayne Harries with 30 and David Haynes with 29 had an opening stand of 77, but when it was broken, the visitors were mesmerised by the spin of Phillips. When Pembroke responded, Daniel Scourfield scored 60 not out to steer Pembroke to victory and had valuable support from Mathew Mitchell with 28.

Division Three

Manorbier are in third place in the table after their comfortable six wickets win at home to Lamphey seconds who were bowled out for 40. Alan Lewis did his best to hold the Lamphey innings together during his knock of 23, but none of the other players reached double figures as Phil Kidney took 3 for 5 and Paul Oeppen 2 for 12. Oeppen followed up his good bowling spell to register 15 not out, supported by Mark Meyrick with 14, as Manorbier reached 42 for 4. For Lamphey, Keith Silcox took 2 for 23 and Alan Lewis 2 for 6. Pembroke Dock are in second position in the table after a narrow one wicket win at home to Camrose and Spittal who were bowled out for 84. Spinner John Coles was on the spot and deserved his reward of 5 for 23, supported by Neil Hallett with 3 for 27. Andrew Harvey scored 15 for the visitors. Nick Daley with a pugnacious 31 and Jamie White with 26, including five boundaries, were the main contributors to the Dock total as Darren Osborne took 3 for 17 for the visitors. Hundleton moved into top spot in the table after winning by 51 runs at home to Llechryd. Hundleton reached a total of 165 for 8, with Jason Oatley top scoring on 39, backed up by John Tysoe with 36. Duane Williams took 3 for 49 for the visitors and skipper Steve Curran supported well by taking 2 for 20. Apart from Duane Williams with a blistering innings of 47, which included five 6s, the Llechryd batsmen found it hard to come to terms with the Hundleton bowling attack. The experienced Nigel Arthur had a match- winning spell of 5 for 49, while Richard Allen and Jason Oatley played their part as well by taking two wickets each. In many ways, Maenclochog's home fixture against Narberth Seconds had an element of a local derby. The visitors were unable to score quickly and were bowled out for 129 in the last over. Paul Bowen bowled particularly well and had a tight spell of 3 for 11, while Dai Jenkins and Mike Howe picked up two wickets each. Batting at number seven, Aaron Keane top scored with 31 and earlier there were contributions of 21 from Daniel James, 15 by Kyle Quartermaine and 14 by Bob Simons. The Hog were in trouble at 90 for 8 after 33 overs, but Mike Howe with 20 not out received admirable support from Aled Vaughan to take the Hog to safety and the total to 102 for 8. Earlier, Wayne Jones had an attacking innings of 34 with four 6s and a four, while Aled Davies and Paul Bowen both scored 10, with Bowen getting his runs from two shots! Ben Quartemaine opened the bowling and ended with 3 for 16, skipper Gary Hughes took 2 for 17 and his nephew Ben 2 for 19.

Division Four

Kilgetty won their first game back in division four despite being without influential skipper Graham Jenkins who is recovering following treatment for pneumonia. Brian Slate tore the heart out of the Carew batting line-up with a superb spell of 6 for 18 from 12 overs and Steve Merchant applied the brakes at the other end by taking 2 for 6. Russell Knox top scored for Carew thirds with 19 before giving a return catch to Slate, the experienced Gethin Evans scored 14 not out and young Rhys Davies scored 12. In reply, Kilgetty passed the Carew total comfortably on reaching 68 for 2, with Mike Johns 33 not out and Duane Reynolds 25 not out. Alan Millichip and Rhys Davies were the wicket-takers for Carew. A high scoring match at Whitland ended in a draw, but Whitland Seconds did enough to claim third spot in the division four table, three points behind Kilgetty. Consistent batting down the order took Whitland Seconds to a total of 260 for 7. Batting number eight, Sion Lynch scored 47 not out with three 6s and three 4s and earlier Darren Rees scored 56 with three 6s and five 4s. Opener Peter Wright gave the innings a solid start with his knock of 52 backed up by Kevin Pierce with 23. Chris Thomas, Stuart Longhurst and Kevin Jenkins each picked up a brace of wickets for Pembroke Seconds. The Pembroke team had a terrific start through openers Kevin Jenkins and Hugh Davies. Davies scored 25, but Jenkins went on to reach an impressive 89 with 14 fours, supported by Simon Smith-Wrench with 15. Sion Lynch demonstrated his all round qualities by taking 4 for 43, Jonathan Davies picked up 3 for 41and teenager Robert Merriman had two important wickets for 25 runs. On a good batting wicket at Cresselly, only nine wickets fell in the match between Cresselly Seconds and Hook Seconds, which ended in a draw. Jim Kinnear dominated the Cresselly innings by scoring 87 not out and Hugh Griffiths provided the right level of support by scoring 41, with contributions of 15 and 12 from Andrew Harris and Geraint Williams, respectively. Sion Jenkins took 3 for 52 for the visitors who reached 123 for 4 in reply. Nigel Badham top scored with 46 and Dean Boswell was 33 not out. Jim Kinnear took 2 for 5 for the Cresselly team. Lawrenny Seconds reached a total of 148 for 4 in their away match against Neyland Seconds after Alan Collins and Chris Williams had both scored 50, with Williams finding the boundary seven times in his innings. Opener Steve Campbell had a useful innings of 28. Henry Durant was the leading bowler for Neyland with 2 for 31. Fourteen-year-old Nicholas Koomen defied the Lawrenny bowling attack with his innings of 28 not out, with Andrew Jones reaching 21 and Lee Day 19 in the Neyland Seconds total of 102 for 7. The consistent Owen Williams ended with 3 for 22 and Willie Morris took 2 for 14 for the visitors.

Division Five

In the low scoring match at Saundersfoot a total of 40 all out by Saundersfoot Seconds resulted in an easy victory for the visitors St. Florence by eight wickets. There were nine players under the age of 18 in the Saundersfoot team, but it was an experienced player John Austin who top scored with 13 not out. Left arm seamer Tommy Roberts took 4 for 11 for the visitors, Ben McDonnell took 3 for 10 and Richard Jones 2 for 10. Not surprisingly, Peter Hall led the victory bid before being dismissed for 26, but the Saints reached 43 for 2 after just 12 overs.

Division Six

For the second time this season, Kilgetty Seconds were denied a match in division six as once again the Kilgetty outfield was too wet to allow the match to start when Kilgetty Seconds were due to play Llangwm thirds. Narberth Thirds were home to newcomers Pembroke Dock Seconds at the Llanddewi Velfrey ground and the match ended in a win for the Narberth team, although they were bowled out for the comparatively low total of 95. Neil Rossitter had a good all-round match and scored almost half of his team's total with 44, including four 4s and a six, supported by Narberth captain Chris Richards with 23. For the Dock team, Jeff Mouseley took 3 for 6, John Scott 3 for 7 and James Olyott 2 for 22. When the Dock batted after tea, spinner Neil Rossitter was almost unplayable as he took 4 for 9, with Ceri Davies having an incisive spell of 3 for 12 and Richard Evans took 2 for 14. Jamie Greenslade was the pick of the Dock batsmen in his knock of 27. Hundleton Seconds were dismissed for 78 in reply to Haverfordwest Fourths' total of 120 at the Racecourse in Haverfordwest. Although Colin Slater was dropped three times, he had an otherwise excellent innings of 69 for the town team, with Colin James being the leading wicket-taker for Hundleton with 4 for 37. After the tea interval, the visitors started well and were reasonably placed at 50 for 2. However, Colin Slater became a thorn in the flesh once again by taking 5 for 18 and Hundleton Seconds were bowled out for 78. Timmy Phillips was the mainstay of the Hundleton total in his knock of 21 and Riaan Strydon backed up with 19.
