Division One

Division One leaders Haverfordwest strengthened their grip at the top of the table with a six wickets win at home to Llangwm, who were dismissed for 134. Llangwm were well placed at 102 for 2, but Simon Williams triggered off a collapse with some help from Stephen Phillips after Chris Inward had scored 37 and William Beresford 33. Simon Williams ended with 5 for 27, Stephen Phillips took 3 for 21 and spinner Clive Tucker 2 for 36. Haverfordwest were in a spot of trouble at 34 for 4, with Andrew Phillips, Danny Potter, Phil Kirkby and David Davies all back in the pavilion. However, Karl Rhead and Stephen Phillips combined in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 101 to steer the Town to a winning total of 135 for 4. Rhead finished with 57 not out, including a six and seven 4s, and Phillips 44 not out, including six 4s. Llangwm skipper Darrell Brick had an excellent early spell where he took out the early order and finished with 3 for 50, with most of the runs coming in the closing stages of the match and Chris Inward picked up the other wicket to fall. Carew have leap-frogged over Cresselly into second place after their early order batsman set up a win at home to Lawrenny by a margin of 85 runs. Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield gave Carew a customary good start in an opening partnership of 49, which was followed by a second wicket partnership of 97 between Nick Scourfield and Brian Hall. Sefton had hit a six and four 4s in his cameo innings of 23 and Scourfield hit two 6s and five 4s before he was caught by James Buckle off the bowling of Ian Jenkins for 64. Hall went on to score 85 not out, with 11 fours, and Simon Wood maintained the momentum with a stylish 33 not out. At one stage, Lawrenny appeared to be safe from defeat, despite a brittle early order performance. Adrian Harries was run out for 21, Simon Cole was bowled by Tim Hicks for 30 and Ian Jenkins had a defiant innings of 36 before he was also bowled by Tim Hicks. However, the Carew bowlers had the last word and the visitors were bowled out for 143. Carew skipper Darren Thomas finished with 3 for 33, Steve Ive took 3 for 44 and Tim Hicks had a decisive spell of 2 for 14 in five overs. Saundersfoot's days in Division One appear to be numbered following their 73 runs defeat at Narberth. The visitors suffered a blow before the match started when Paul Mansbridge was called back to work on an emergency job after being named in the 11 players given to the umpires. The Seasiders fielded with 10 men in the sizzling heat as Narberth rattled up a commanding total of 225 for 4. Wayne Howells scored 82 from 91 deliveries with 11 fours before being run out. Mike Scale reached 39 before being bowled by Saundersfoot skipper Chris Parker, Joel Davies was 37 not out from just 20 balls, Marc Hughes scored 20, Daniel James was 16 not out and opener Asher Stanford helped Marc Hughes put on 35 for the first wicket. Mike Scale and Wayne Howells featured in a third wicket partnership of 110 on a day which the Saundersfoot bowlers would prefer to forget, although Kevin Sykes had the commendable figures of 1 for 30 from his 12 overs. Five of the Saundersfoot batsmen had useful double figure scores, but none of them was able to convert a good start into a half-century or more. Opener Jason Larma had a solid 25, Mike Williams wasted little time in scoring 31, all-rounder Danny Caine scored 25, his brother James 22 and wicket-keeper Ian Poole snatched 28 off 20 deliveries before being stumped by his opposite number, Asher Stanford, off the bowling of a former team-mate, Nick Evans. Evans ended with a return of 6 for 52 and was happy to concede a few runs in his eight-over spell as wickets fell at regular intervals. Wayne Howells took 2 for 43 in support. Whitland produced the shock of the day in defeating second place Cresselly by seven wickets after bowling out the visitors for 152. Skipper Paul Webb did the damage in taking 5 for 26 from 12 overs of tantalising off-spin, leg spinner Meyrick Rowland took 3 for 35 and paceman Mathew Davies also got in on the act with two early wickets. For the Cresselly team, Mathew Lewis top scored with 27 batting at number eight, Damian Arthur scored 25, Lyn Richards 21 and Julian Arthur 19. Whitland lost two early wickets, with openers Paul Webb and David Lee falling to young Cresselly opening bowlers Stefan Jenkins and Neil Gregory. However, Paul Davies and Mark Lee took the total from 23 to 152 before Lee was bowled by Mathew Lewis for 49 after hitting eight 4s when he was looking for one run to reach a personal milestone and his team needed one run to win. Paul Davies finished with 72 not out in an excellent innings, during which he found the boundary 16 times while facing 90 balls. St. Ishmaels scored 211 for 8 at home to Lamphey. Skipper Peter Bradshaw led the way with 51, supported by Andrew Williams with 46, Jonathan Pawlett 40 and Kristian Bennett with a quickfire innings of 24. Greg England took 3 for 51 for Lamphey and Daniel Sutton took 2 for 61. Lamphey made an effort to go for the runs, but eventually settled for a draw on 187 for 7. Skipper Daniel Sutton scored 45 before being bowled by Steven Williams, Craig Nutty backed up with 42, including a huge six into the road, and the in-form Mark Yea scored 44 attractive runs before giving a return catch to Jonathan Pawlett. Ian Kerrison kept the visitors in the hunt with his innings of 18 not out. Lamphey had started like a train and scored 78 in 12 overs, but spinners Steven Williams and Daniel Flynn put a brake on the scoring. Williams finished with 3 for 41 and Flynn with figures of 2 for 33, backed up by Jonathan Pawlett with 2 for 25.

Division Two

Carew Seconds had an excellent win at Fishguard after building up a total of 184 for 4 and bowling out the home team for just 93. Gerald Hicks and Martin Scourfield got Carew off to a good start with an opening partnership of 64. Hicks scored 43 before being run out and Scourfield 39 before being bowled by Stephen Meaney. Ben Evans had an attacking innings of 55 not out with a six and seven 4s and Jeremy Griffiths scored 30 before being bowled by former Cresselly cricketer Robert Sutton. None of the Fishguard batsman was able to get going against the six-pronged Carew bowling attack. Stephen Meaney scored 17, Sion O'Connor 15 not out and Alan Proud also scored 15. The highly promising Scott Helmich took 3 for 10 in just over eight overs, Martin Scourfield took 2 for 11 and Gareth Brace 2 for 21. Pembroke had the better of a drawn match at Llechryd after a consistent batting performance had given the visitors a total of 227 for 6. The experienced Hugh Davies scored 50 with a six and nine 4s, supported by Barry Evans with 49 and William Davies with 41. Kevin Evans took 3 for 53 for Llechryd and Steve Curran 2 for 40. Openers Kevin Evans and Dewi Davies gave Llechryd a good start in a first wicket partnership of 93. Evans scored 49 and Davies 33 and following their departure the battle was taken up by Steve Curran, who scored 39, and Ray Hasler with 27. The high-scoring match ended with the Llechryd total on 199 for 7. Perry Phillips took 2 for 56 and Martin Fletcher 2 for 62 for the visitors. In other Division Two matches, leaders Neyland won by eight wickets at home to Llanrhian, Hook had the better of a drawn game at Burton and Haverfordwest Seconds held on for a draw at Maenclochog in scoring 141 for 8 in response to the Hog's total of 240 all out. Whitland Rugby player Aled Davies scored 92 for Maenclochog and Narberth rugby player Kevin Davies scored 50 from just 22 balls.

Division Three

Manorbier had a convincing win at home to Burton Seconds who were bowled out for 91 in reply to Manorbier's total of 215 for 7. Jeremy Smith had a superb innings of 94 for Manorbier with four 6s and eight 4s, supported by Paul Oeppen with 36 and Steve Flook with 19. Gareth Bevan took 2 for 19 for the visitors and Mark Griffiths 2for 28. Gareth Bevan tried to hold the Burton innings together in scoring 39, supported by Robert Griffiths with 14. However, the Manorbier bowlers attacked relentlessly, with Phil Kidney taking 3 for 22, Paul Oeppen 3 for 24 and Neil Powling 2 for 28. Narberth Seconds lost by 43 runs away to Stackpole after dismissing the home team for 163. All-rounder Alan Webster scored 50 for Stackpole, supported by opener Hugh Cox with 27 and Jeremy Garlic with 23 not out. Daniel Hughes picked up four wickets for Narberth and Joe Large took three wickets. Daniel Hughes also demonstrated his batting potential in scoring 25, backed up by Chris Richards with 20, but there was little support from the other batsmen and the visitors were bowled out for 120. Darren Willington took 3 for 9 and Alan Webster 3 for 29. Hundleton had a narrow two wickets win away to Camrose and Spittal who were bowled out for 160. For the visitors, Scott Arthur scored 31, Jonathan Williams 30, Stephen Williams 28 and Guy Lewis 22. Jason Oatley took 3 for 25, Nigel Arthur 3 for 35 and Richard Allen 3 for 36. Malcolm Arnold led the resistance for the home team with 51, supported by Martin Tweedy with 21. The pair both had good all-round games as Malcolm Arnold took 3 for 23 and Martin Tweedy 3 for 40 as Hundleton reached 161 for 8 in an exciting finish. There was another exciting finish at Cresselly where Cresselly Seconds just failed to pass the Herbrandston total of 190 for 5. Gary Davies scored 44 for the visitors, backed up by Peter Spencer with 34, Stephen Bennett with 33 and Alan McLlelland with 28, which included six 4s. Cresselly made a determined effort to get the runs and skipper Steve Davies led from the front with 61 not out, including nine 4s, in a Cresselly total of 187 for 5. Davies featured in a fifth wicket partnership of 101 with the experienced Selwyn Cole, who scored 34, and earlier Andrew Harris scored 40. Michael Spearing took 3 for 46 for the visitors.

Division Four

In the constantly fluctuating position at the top of Division Four, Crymych have taken over from Lamphey Seconds at the top of the table after Lamphey Seconds lost at home to Pembroke Dock. The visitors had an excellent start with an opening partnership of 65 between Malcolm Morris and Peter Kingdom and went on to score 188 for 7. All-rounder John Davies had a quality innings of 59 with seven 4s and a six, supported by Peter Kingdom with 34, Andrew Wood with 26 and Malcolm Morris with 25. For Lamphey Seconds, Nick Shelmerdine took 3 for 29, with both Andrew Skeels and Haydn Cole taking 2 for 53. With a number of players attending the wedding of team-mate Gareth Lewis, the Lamphey batsmen found runs hard to get against the strong Dock bowling attack. Opener John McPherson attempted to hold the innings together with a fighting knock of 55, but John Davies followed up his batting to take 5 for 35, backed up by Nick Daley with 3 for 15 and the Lamphey team were bowled out for 135. The Dock have now moved into second place in the table, with Lamphey Seconds in third spot. Lawrenny Seconds are also still in the promotion hunt following their five wickets win at home to Camrose and Spittal Seconds, who were held to 117 for 6. Adrian Harris scored 39 not out for the visitors and Marc Jones chipped in with 25. Ben Cole took 2 for 18 and spinner Phil Cole 2 for 22 for the Lawrenny team, who won comfortably after reaching 118 for 5. Phil Cole scored 29 and Steve Campbell 27, with both batsmen hitting four 4s. The experienced Chris Williams was 18 not out and Andrew Collins scored 14 with three 4s. Pembroke Seconds won by five wickets with a total of 198 for 5 after the visitors, Stackpole Seconds, had totalled 195 for 6. Phil Tallett top scored for the visitors with 51 and Martin Alderman scored 49. Spinner David Jones took three wickets for the Pembroke team, who batted consistently to get the winning runs. The experienced Kevin Jenkins scored 51, Simon Smith Wrench supported with 30, while Clive Horgan scored 27 not out and Ryan Hayward 21. Carew Thirds played their home game against Whitland Seconds at Pembroke Dock, as the Kilgetty ground was unavailable because of the Kilgetty Summer Carnival. Whitland Thirds batted first and totalled 213 for 5. Openers Andrew Williams and Peter Wright scored 42 and 39, respectively, all-rounder Simon Davies scored 39 not out, Iwan Bevan 28 and Darren Rees 19. For Carew, young Tom Davies took 2 for 36. Carew Thirds secured a draw on reaching a total of 158 for 5. Early order batsmen David Rees scored 37 and three youngsters made important contributions. Tom Davies, 33 not out, including five 4s, his cousin Rhys Davies opened the batting and scored 25 and Nicky Cope supported with 18. The experienced Martyn Cole made sure that the Carew team held out for a draw on reaching 24 not out. Owen Edwards took 2 for 24 for the visitors.

Division Five

Kilgetty travelled to Llanrhian and declared after 39 overs upon reaching a total of 219 for 3. Skipper Graham Jenkins had a superb innings of 110 from just 66 balls and hit two sixes and 18 fours. Opener Craig Hurst, who scored 55, helped Jenkins to add 132 for the second wicket and Duane Reynolds scored 15 not out at the end. Geraint Morris took 2 for 25 for Llanrhian Seconds, who totalled 177 for 7 in reply. Sixteen-year-old Mathew Bennett and Tim Kitchell had a third wicket partnership of 100 for the Llanrhian team and each batsman scored 45, supported by Selwyn Morris with 21. Steve Merchant took 3 for 43 for the visitors, backed up by Duane Reynolds with 2 for 43 and Anthony Bevan with 2 for 45. In all probability, the result has guaranteed promotion for the Kilgetty team, but Hook Seconds have taken over the leadership of Division Five after defeating Dinas at home by a margin of 150 runs. In the local derby between Narberth Thirds and Whitland Thirds, played at the Llanddewi Velfrey ground, the Whitland team won by eight wickets after dismissing the Narberth team for 110. Andrew Phillips peppered the boundaries with three 6s and four 4s in his innings of 46 for Narberth Thirds and skipper Bob Simons dropped anchor to score 36 not out. Ashley Evans took 3 for 8 for the Whitland team and the other wicket-takers were Daniel Newton with 3 for 36, Robert Merriman with 2 for 17 and Jonathan Davies with 2 for 20. Opener Arwyn Thomas scored 18 for Whitland Thirds and Hefin Thomas and Bobby Webb had an unbroken third wicket partnership to take the visitors to a winning total of 114 for 2. Thomas hit three 6s and four 4s in his innings of 36 not out and Webb finished with 29 not out. St. Florence travelled to Johnston and totalled 155 before being dismissed following a fifth wicket partnership of 70 between Malcolm Ruff and skipper Stephen Hughes. Ruff hit eight 4s in his innings of 60 and Hughes seven fours in his innings of 35. Rupert Fleming was the other batsman in double figures with 10. For Johnston Thirds, Mark Goodwick took 4 for 3 in just one over in his first spell of bowling for a number of seasons and Andrew Page took 3 for 25. Johnston Seconds held out for a draw with a total of 123 for 7. Nicky Davies scored 28, Mike Davies 15 and Steven Mills senior 15. Tommy Roberts caused problems for all of the batsmen in a spell of 5 for 44 and R. P. Rice took 2 for 19.

Division Six

Saundersfoot Seconds still lead the Division Six table despite losing by four wickets at home to Llechryd Seconds after being bowled out for 135. The Seasiders were in real difficulty on a total of 30 for 6, but Roger Stanford had a fighting innings of 73 not out, with 13 fours, to boost the Saundersfoot total. He was assisted by his son Simon in an eighth wicket partnership of 45 and then Chris Williams, who scored 16, helped Stanford to add 50 for the ninth wicket. Ollie Llewellyn took 4 for 24 for the visitors, 14-year-old Josh Ward had an impressive spell of 3 for 26 and Malcolm McHugh took 3 for 33. The visitors reached a winning total of 136 for 6 with two overs to spare. Jerry Green scored 24 not out, Josh Ward followed up his wickets to open the innings and score 21 and there were useful contributions of 17 and 16 from Steve Welch and Marvin Ward, respectively. For the Saundersfoot team, Simon Stanford took 2 for 28 and Chris Williams 2 for 31. Hundleton Seconds had a seven wickets win at home to Llangwm Thirds after dismissing the visitors for 140. The Llangwm team were given a steady start by openers Mike Milward, who scored 32, and Frank Thomas, who scored 14. Colin James, with a spell of 2 for 28, and David Pratt, with a spell of two for 36, triggered off a collapse, but Jeremy Brock, batting at number seven, scored 41, supported by Andrew Stuart with 16. However, the change bowlers tightened the line and were rewarded when Jonathan Palmer took 2 for 6 and John Harris 3 for 25. Huddleston's opening batsmen, Lee Lewis and Riaan Strydom, then set about the run chase.Mike Milward bowled Lewis in the 11th over after scoring 10, but Strydom continued to go strongly at the other end. Geraint Jackson had a quick innings of 14 and young Paul Griffiths then helped Strydom take the Hundleton total to 141 for 3 with some excellent strokeplay. Hundleton won with three overs to spare and Strydom finished with an unbeaten 70, which included nine 4s, and Paul Griffiths ended with 28 not out, in a match-winning partnership of 90. For the visitors, Mike Milward took 3 for 33.
