Division One

If Cresselly win the Division One championship this season they will remember Saturday's match at home to Narberth as one of the defining moments.

Chasing a Narberth total of 211 for six, Cresselly seemed dead and buried on a total of 81 for six with all of the big guns back in the pavilion biting their nails and Narberth appeared to be on top.

However, the lower order demonstrated the fine team spirit in the Cresselly camp by staging a rearguard action.

Ryan Lewis and Damian Arthur added 83 for the seventh wicket before Lewis was bowled by Ceri Jones for a belligerent innings of 46 from just 28 deliveries with one six and four fours. Damian Arthur scored 39 from just 34 deliveries before being caught by Wayne Howells off the bowling of Richard Pratt but the fight back continued.

Stefan Jenkins had a quick fire 26 with four fours but when he was bowled by Wayne Howells Cresselly still needed 12 to win with the last pair, Neilson Cole and Neil Gregory at the crease.

Neil Gregory's straight drive for four off the first ball of the last over bowled by Gary Hughes gave Cresselly victory amidst scenes of jubilation in the Cresselly dressing room.

Earlier in the Cresselly innings Richard Harris scored 22, Adam Chandler 16 and Simon Cole 14.

Wayne Howells who is having an excellent season took three for 27 for Narberth and there were two wickets each for spinner Nick Evans and promising pace bowler Richard Prout.

Earlier in the afternoon consistent batting by the visitors had given Narberth a total of 211 for six. Marc Hughes opened the innings and scored an attractive 60, which included ten fours and gave Narberth the ideal platform in an opening partnership of 64 with Michael Scale.

Wayne Howells had a solid innings of 36, Daniel James chipped in with 32 and Ceri Jones crashed 28 not out at the end from just 16 balls.

Spinner Ryan Lewis took two for 34 for Cresselly and Richard Harris two for 50.

The phone lines to Cresselly from Carew were very active after Carew had a comprehensive ten wickets win over the visitors from Llangwm who were bowled out for 61.

The Llangwm batsmen were unable to deal with the clever swing bowling of Simon Wood who took four for 15 from 12 overs, spinner John Canton nipped in to take two for six and the accurate Robert Scourfield took two for 35.

Henry Thomas top scored for Llangwm with 19 and young Chris Inward was 15 not out.

The Carew openers Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield wasted no time in racing to 62 without loss. Sefton had an attacking innings of 59 not out with some wristy shots off his legs and the solid Scourfield provided the ideal foil at the other end.

Lawrenny picked up their third win of the season with an excellent batting performance by the early order batsmen which allowed them to top the total of 200 for four set by the visitors Lamphey.

Daniel Sutton and Peter Hall continued their rich vein of form for Lamphey with an opening partnership of 151, which ended when Sutton was bowled by James Buckle for 72 off 101 balls when he tried to increase the tempo. He hit 11 fours and one six in his quality innings and Hall went on to score 78 with 12 fours before being caught by Ian Jenkins off the bowling of Steven Lewis. Once the opening partnership had been broken Lamphey were unable to accelerate so that visions of a score of 250 quickly disappeared as the visitors settled for 200 for four.

Steven Lewis ended with figures of two for 39.

Opener Andrew Cole senior gave Lawrenny an ideal start with his innings of 50 before he fell to a brilliant diving catch at mid on by Craig Nutty off the bowling of Daniel Sutton.

Simon Cole maintained the momentum with a stylish 48 and then Steven Lewis 49 not out and Ian Jenkins with 22 not out took Lawrenny to a total of 203 for five in the 43rd over.

Lewis hit two sixes and five fours after settling in to take stock of the pitch and the bowling.

Lamphey skipper Daniel Sutton followed up his runs by taking two for 46.

Saundersfoot did well to bowl out the visitors St. Ishmaels for 129.

Kristan Bennett and Steven Williams staged a mini recovery for Tish who had been 26 for four. Bennett scored 46 with one six and five fours and Williams scored 28 with the only other double figure contributions coming from Michael Symons with 12 and Andrew Pawlett with 11 not out.

It was a day when the bowlers were on top of the ball as after the tea interval Saundersfoot were bowled out for 72 to lose by 57 runs.

Off spinner Steve Williams took four for 12 in eight overs, Jonathan Pawlett two for 18 and Kristan Bennett two for 15.

Ian Poole offered some resistance with his innings of 17 and middle order batsman James Caine reached 14.

Just four points separate the top three teams in Division One as Haverfordwest kept in the promotion race with Cresselly and Carew with a six wickets win at Whitland.

After an indifferent start Whitland eventually reached a total of 197 for nine following a face saving sixth wicket partnership of 89 between Mark Lee and Mathew Davies.

Lee scored 52 and Davies attacked the ball at every opportunity and registered two sixes and four fours in his innings of 58.

Earlier left-hander Paul Davies scored 26 with some support from David Lee with 18.

Paceman Naeem Akhtar caused most of the damage for Haverfordwest in a spell of four for 31 and spinner Mathew Johns took three for 37.

Phil Kirkby has been one of the leading batsmen in the County this season and he led the Haverfordwest run chase with a quality innings of 74 backed up the in form Karl Rhead with 57.

Openers Danny Potter and Andrew Phillips scored 23 and 16 respectively and David Davies was 16 not out.

Huw Devonald, Scarlets' rugby star Michael Phillips and all rounder Meyrick Rowlands each picked up a wicket for Whitland.

Division Two

In recent weeks Pembroke have started to move up the table and on Saturday picked up their third win of the season.

The visitors were bowled out for 142 with Stephen Meaney being the leading batsman with his innings of 44.

Kevin Jenkins took three for 21 from 12 tight overs, spinner Nigel Phillips took three for 40 and all rounder Gwyn Griffiths took two for 22.

After surviving some early scares Pembroke gradually mounted a challenge on the Fishguard total and reached a winning total of 145 for eight despite the efforts of former Cresselly cricketer Robert Sutton who took four for 26.

Daniel Scourfield had a fluent innings of 36 and two experienced campaigners Colin Kaijaks and Gwyn Griffiths steered Pembroke home with their respective knocks of 31 not out and 24 not out.

Kerry Waters and David Sefton helped Carew Seconds to cling on for a draw in their away match at Hook.

Carew Seconds were responding to a Hook total of 191 and settled for 132 for nine after Waters and Sefton had survived for just over two overs.

Earlier Gerald Hicks scored 35 before being bowled by Jamie Phelps and Aled Griffiths scored 21.

Jamie Phelps finished with three for 18 from his nine overs and Gary Martin took three for 34.

Earlier Phelps had been on form with the bat and was involved in two half century partnerships adding 50 for the second wicket with Mathew Rowlands and 51 for the third wicket with Mick Haltam.

Phelps scored 54 with eight fours supported by Mick Haltam with 29 and Gary Martin with 23.

Seb Palin was the pick of the Carew bowlers with a return of five for 34 from 12 overs supported by Martin Scourfield with three wickets.

Burton have strengthened their grip at the top of the table with a narrow two wickets win at home to Llanrhian in a top of the table clash.

Chris Couzens scored 88 not out and Tim Sterling 34, an Llanrhian total of 200 for seven as James Venables took three for 35.

Burton reached 203 for eight in the 44th over with opening batsmen Richard Hayman scoring 73.

Ben Jones took three for 58 for Llanrhian and Dafydd Charles two for 18.

Haverfordwest Seconds won by six wickets at home after restricting the visitors Llechryd to 122 for seven and Neyland moved into second place with an eight wickets win at Maenclochog who were bowled out for 116.

Rupert Sykes scored 32 and Rob Nicholas 22 in the Maenclochog total as Greg Miller took four for 36.

Neyland reached 117 for two in reply with Paul Murray 35, John Jones 28 not out and Greg Miller 23.

Division Three

Narberth Seconds won by five wickets at home to Manorbier who were held to 111 for nine.

Geoff Marsh batting at number eight, top scored for the visitors with an innings of 44 which included one six and six fours after opening batsmen Jeremy Smith had scored 19.

Leg spinner Greg Morris took three for 29 for the Narberth team and there were two wickets each for Ben Quartermaine and Ben Hughes.

Promising teenager Thomas Richards led the Narberth victory bid with an accomplished innings of 49 supported by Clive Jones with 40 and skipper Mathew Davies who ended with 24 not out after hitting a six to win the match.

Neil Powling took three for 33 for Manorbier and Jeremy Smith took two for 24.

Cresselly Seconds held on for a draw in their away match to Llangwm who scored 168 for seven after winning the toss and deciding to bat.

After getting Alastair Platten out fairly cheaply for 30 the Cresselly team found Sean Thomas a stumbling block with his innings of 72 not out.

Using the short boundary at the Llangwm ground for this match to good measure Thomas found the boundary four times and cleared it six times!

For the visitors Mathew Lewis took three for 58 and Phillip James two for 16.

Selwyn Cole held the Cresselly innings together with 52 batting at number five, skipper Steve Davies supported with 25, as did another experienced player Phillip James in his innings of 23.

For Llangwm Mathew Hughes took three for 25 and Sean Waller two for 30.

Division Three leaders Hundleton won by 107 runs at home to Burton Seconds who were dismissed for 117 in reply to a Hundleton total of 224 for four.

Jonathan Williams had a quality innings of 115 including one six and 18 fours supported by Scott Arthur with 38 and John Tysoe with 23.

Dafydd Griffiths took two for 22 for the visitors.

Martin James with 46 and Mark Griffiths with 17 were the only scores of note when Burton replied after the tea interval.

Jason Oatley and Richard Allen each picked up three wickets for Hundleton and Nigel Arthur took two wickets.

Division Four

Carew Thirds travelled to Crymych and were bowled out for a disappointing total of 79 in reply to the Crymych total of 175 all out.

Robert Whitefield took five for 44 for the visitors and Bevis Stanford top scored for Crymych with 49.

Carew Thirds skipper Gethin Evans attempted to hold his team together with his innings of 28 as David Deardon took four for 17 for Crymych.

Pembroke Dock had the better of a high scoring drawn game at home to Camrose and Spittal Seconds who held on for a draw at 172 for nine in reply to a Dock total of 234 for six.

All rounder John Davies was the Dock hero on the day with a superb innings of 102 not out supported by Peter Jones with 54.

For the visitors Arthur Kendrick took three for 54 and Mike Loveridge picked up two wickets.

Gelly James was the man responsible for the visitors avoiding defeat as he stroked his way to 85 not out and he received supported from Alan Jones in his innings of 34.

Neil Hallett took four for 34 for the Dock and Nicky Daley took two for 39.

Pembroke Seconds lost by 13 runs away to Neyland Seconds after being bowled out for 154 chasing a Neyland total of 167 all out.

Martin Fletcher inflicted most of the damage on the Neyland batsmen with a fine spell of six for 35 whilst Stuart Phillips with 50 and Lee Day with 46 were the main contributors to the Neyland total.

Paul White batted extremely well to score 50 when Pembroke Seconds replied and Simon Smith-Wrench backed up with his innings of 28.

Wickets were shared out amongst the Neyland bowlers with Nicholas Kooman taking two for 12 and Henry Durant two for 20.

Lawrenny Seconds kept in touch with the Division Four leaders with a four wickets win away to Stackpole Seconds who were bowled out for 142.

Steve Alford with 38 which included a six and four fours together with Andrew Haye with 30 were the main run scorers for Stackpole supported by Peter Tallett with 19.

Phil Cole who bowls a mixture of off spinners and leg spinners took six for 48 for the visitors and the consistent Owen Williams ended with two for 19. Middle order batsmen Chris Williams played a key part in the Lawrenny win with his innings of 36, which included five fours after opener Steve Campbell had scored 32.

David Jones and Willie Morris then took the visitors to victory during their unbroken seventh wicket partnership with both batsmen scoring 13 not out.

Owen Shanklin took three for 37 for Stackpole Seconds.

In a high scoring match at Lamphey the Division Four leaders won by four wickets after the visitors Whitland Seconds aggregated 205 for three.

Danny Griffiths had most of the runs with an undefeated innings of 83 which included 10 fours supported by Owen Edwards with 35, Andrew Williams with 26 and Kevin Pearce with 18 not out.

Jason Griffiths and Andrew Skeels picked up a wicket each for Lamphey Seconds who reached 208 for six in the 38th over.

Nic Johnson opened the innings for Lamphey to score 78 and skipper Andrew Skeels was 70 not out. Opening bowler Simon Davies picked up three wickets for the visitors.

Division Five

Kilgetty remain in second place following their last gasp win at home to Narberth Thirds from the last ball of the match.

Kilgetty had declared on a total of 202 for six at the end of the 37th over. Opener Mike Johns scored 50, Craig Hurst 47, skipper Graham Jenkins 43 from 22 deliveries with two sixes and six fours and Duane Reynolds 36.

For the visitors Sam McNaughton took three for 34 and Rob Gaskill took two for 60.

The Narberth batsmen proved to be difficult to dislodge. Skipper Rob Simons had a solid innings of 53, Aaron Keane supported with 36 with both Rob Gaskill and Sam McNaughton contributing 20.

McNaughton's innings ended when he was bowled by Steve Merchant off the last delivery of the match.

For Kilgetty Anthony Bevan took three for 20 and there were two wickets each for Steve Merchant, Duane Reynolds and Mike Johns.

Whitland Thirds lost by 107 runs at home to Division Five leaders Hook Seconds who scored 207 for two.

Openers Brenan Lay and Nigel Badham had a first wicket partnership of 128 with Badham scoring 86 and Lay 61.

They were supported by Gareth Herberg with 37 not out and Simon Brick with 16 not out. Robert Merrimen and Gwyn Phillips were the wicket takers for Whitland who were dismissed for 100 in reply.

Darren Rees scored 20 with contributions of 18 from Jonathan Davies, 15 from Malcolm Thomas, 13 from Hefin Thomas and 11 from Robert Merriman.

Sion Jenkins and Simon Brick who have played a big part in the Hook Seconds success story this season took most the wickets. Jenkins took five for 28 and Brick four for 27.

St. Florence travelled to Haverfordwest and reached a total of 168 for nine batting first at the Racecourse.

Chris Meads scored 43 and skipper Stephen Hughes batting at number nine had an attacking innings of 35 with one six and six fours.

Other useful contributions were made by Rupert Fleming with 19 and Tommy Roberts with 18.

Paul Jenkins took five for 32 for Haverfordwest Thirds who won by seven wickets with a total of 169 for three with two overs to spare.

Opener Mark White played a major part in the run chase with 63 not out supported by John James with 32 not out, Graham Morris with 22 and Richard Davies with 19.

Richard Jones, Tommy Roberts and Stephen Hughes were the wicket takers for St. Florence.

Division Six

The Saundersfoot club did well to field two teams on Saturday, as 10 squad players were unavailable.

Saundersfoot Seconds were away to Stackpole Thirds and were bowled out for 78. All rounder Terry Pickton attempted to hold the innings together in his knock of 37 and Simon Stanford scored 11.

Richard Caley did the damage for Stackpole Thirds by taking five for 27.

He was also on form with the bat as he scored 27 in the Stackpole Thirds total of 79 for three to give his team victory by seven wickets.

Joe Duffy took two for 27 for the visitors backed up by Simon Stanford who took one for 15 with his spinners.

Hundleton Seconds were involved in a close game away to Llanrhian Thirds.

Batting first the visitors totalled 128 for seven with knocks of 22 by Riaan Strydom and 17 by Jamie Brenchley.

Chris Reynolds took four for 38 for Llanrhian Thirds who won by two wickets on reaching 129 for eight.

Chris Reynolds top scored with 37 supported by Richard Reed with 20.

Colin James and David Pratt came close to giving the Hundleton team victory as James took five for 31 and Pratt took three for 33.
