Division One
Second placed Cresselly maintained the pressure on Haverfordwest at the top of the table with a comfortable five wickets win at Lamphey in a high scoring match.
Daniel Sutton's innings of 101, with a six and six 4s, took Lamphey to a total of 208 for 5. The Lamphey skipper's innings was supplemented by Peter Hall's 54 in an opening partnership of 123, which ended when Hall was caught by Julian Arthur off spinner Simon Cole after hitting eight 4s.
Craig Nutty contributed 25 to the total as Simon Cole ended with a return of 2 for 42.
An exhilarating second wicket partnership of 123 between Julian Arthur and Simon Cole turned the game in Cresselly's favour.
The flamboyant Arthur scored 87 with five 6s and eight 4s and the stylish Cole 46. Both left-handers fell to brilliant catches by Gareth Lewis at deep midwicket off the bowling of spinner Will Silcox.
In an unusual incident which happened when Arthur was on 81, a ball from pace bowler Greg England hit the stumps and dislodged the bail, but the bail did not fall off!
After the Lord Mayor's Show and the departure of both batsmen, Adam Chandler was dismissed cheaply, but skipper Lyn Richards and Richard Harris ensured that there were no further setbacks, as the experienced pair played each ball on its merits.
Richards scored 23 and Harris 16 not out as Cresselly reached 209 for 5. Will Silcox weathered the early storm and ended with 3 for 36.
Carew had a comprehensive win at Saundersfoot by a margin of 143 runs after totalling 213 for 6. Openers Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield gave the visitors a solid start in their first wicket partnership of 66, which ended when Sefton was caught at short mid-wicket by James Caine off the bowling of Kevin Sykes for 31.
Robert Scourfield joined his brother at the crease and the pair took the total to 105 before Robert Scourfield fell to the first ball bowled by Chris Parker when he hit a long hop outside leg stick straight into the hands of Steve Cook at square leg.
Two balls later, Parker also trapped Simon Wood leg before wicket without scoring.
Carew had scored 125 for 4 after 35 overs when Nick Scourfield was dismissed, but Phil Jones and Steve Cole plundered 75 runs during their fifth wicket partnership.
Cole opened his shoulders to hit three successive sixes off the bowling of David Parcell. He scored 51 from 36 deliveries with five 6s and four 4s, before being bowled by Chris Parker, but with Jones 33 not out, Carew took the total past the 200 mark.
Chris Parker ended with figures of 3 for 42.
Saundersfoot used David Parcell to open the innings as a pinch hitter. The ploy was successful in the short term as Parcell hit two fours immediately. He also hit a six off Carew skipper Darren Thomas, which went over the stream and into the adjoining field.
The ball was lost, but Carew did not lose the match as Thomas had revenge in a superb 12-over spell during which he took six wickets for nine runs as Saundersfoot were bowled out for a meagre total of 70.
Parcell scored 15 before being caught by Robert Scourfield off the bowling of Thomas, wicket-keeper Ian Poole top scored with 22 and Daniel Caine was the only other batsman in double figures with 11.
