It was a busy bank holiday weekend for local cricketers as the new Dragon Sports Pembroke County Cricket League season got underway.
There were matches on both the Saturday and Monday, but unfortunately missing from the line-up of teams doing battle in the 2002 campaign was Kilgetty, as the club has sadly folded after several years as one of the county's premier sides.
There were also shocks on the field on the opening day, which in parts of the county was hampered by rain, causing the abandonment of a couple of games.
Perhaps one of the surprises was the defeat of reigning division one champions Lamphey by visiting Haverfordwest, although Lamphey have been weakened themselves by the loss a number of key players.
Elsewhere, Carew must have been cursing the elements as they looked well set for victory against Hook when the heavens opened and forced the teams back into the pavilion.
Pembroke enjoyed a comfortable home victory over Whitland, while the Llangwm v Lawrenny match was another affected by the rain.
Things did not get any better for Lamphey on Monday either as they slumped to another defeat at the hands of Llangwm, while Haverfordwest followed up their success with a high scoring draw with Pembroke.
Carew missed out for a second time as they were scheduled to play Kilgetty, while Cresselly opened their account with a fine victory against near neighbours Lawrenny.
Whitland also enjoyed better fortunes with a big win at home to Hook, who were beaten for a second time in three days.
