Sir,

There was a large turnout for the Rembrance Day parade on Sunday, certainly the largest in the last decade, and it was most reassuring to see so many of the often maligned younger generation either on parade or just present paying their respects.

To me, the only discordant note was, once again, the absence of so many town councillors - there were only six present.

I believe that there were only four councillors in attendance at the Remembrance Day service on the Friday.

Perhaps more of the councillors should take heed of the example of Clr. Hallett, who curtailed his holiday in Germany to ensure that he was present for the ceremonies.

Councillors have a duty to set an example, particularly to the younger generation, and I hope that next year the absentees will make a better effort to pay their respects.

Perhaps a 'Three Line Whip' from the Mayor?
