Three Liberal Democrat councillors are calling on the county council to exert maximum pressure upon Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) to vastly improve the sewerage infrastructure.

Clr. Tony Brinsden (Amroth) said: "Welsh Water need to vastly improve the sewerage infrastructure and to rapidly update their current systems within the county so that we are not serviced like a third world country.

"This is especially important in areas where planning is restricted due to the overloaded sewerage systems and where the cleanliness and Blue Flag status of our beaches are affected." Clr. Liz Campion (St. Dogmaels) said: "Several St. Dogmaels residents have raised concerns with me over the poor quality of sewerage drainage and the lack of provision altogether in many areas."

Clr. Campion,  has met with some of the residents who have raised concerns about poor sewerage provision in her own ward and said: "I am working with the rest of the Liberal  Democrat Focus Team to try and improve the situation across the county."

Clr. Bob Kilmister (Dinas Cross) added: "Dinas Cross has been blighted by this problem for sometime now and despite numerous requests by the community council, Welsh Water has failed to come up with a clear timetable to resolve this extremely serious problem. Planning permission cannot be granted due to the poor state of the system and the water quality at the local beach is badly affected during bad weather."
