Local councillors are looking into introducing CCTV to an area of Tenby that has been subject to an inordinate amount of dog fouling.

Raising the matter at Tuesday (February 8) night’s meeting of the Town Council, the Mayor, Cllr Sam Skyrme Blackhall said that local residents had approached her with regards to the grass area and footpaths around Augustus Place Community Centre, which had become ‘very unpleasant’ with ‘dog poo everywhere’ due to irresponsible owners not picking up after their pooches.

“A number of residents that live in the vicinity have approached us to say how disgusting the patch has become with dog excrement,” the Mayor told her fellow members.

“Some dog walkers in particular may take that route as a short cut to get from A to B, but some are letting their dogs loose and clearly not keeping an eye on them.

“A lot of elderly people walk through there and wheelchair users. It’s become very unpleasant.

“Pembrokeshire County Council has cleaned up a lot of that area, as it has been attracting vermin,” she continued.

The Mayor suggested that introducing CCTV to the building, which is owned by the Town Council, could help eradicate the problem.

“CCTV may act as a deterrent and hopefully help eradicate this issue, as people will know that they are being picked up on camera and filmed.

“It would help monitor the matter and keep an eye on what’s happening,” added the Mayor, before proposing that the town clerk look into costings for CCTV.

The majority of councillors voted in favour of pursuing the proposal.
