The introduction of speed checks in Narberth has been welcomed by the town's county council representative.

Following a review of sites for mobile speed cameras, the area stretching from just below Allensbank and taking in Narberth Bridge, Castle Street, Market Square, High Street to Coxhill, will now be covered by the scheme, which will come into operation once appropriate signage is in place.

Speaking to the Observer, Clr. David Watkins, said he was 'very pleased' that the town, particularly outside the primary school and Narberth Bridge, was to be covered by the scheme.

"I have received a number of complaints from residents, especially at Narberth Bridge, that motorists are ignoring the speed limits both travelling into and out of Narberth and there have been a number of accidents there," he said.

"I know not everyone agrees with speed cameras, but if they enhance safety, then they are most welcome and I am sure the primary school will be pleased that they are being covered."
