Tenby representative, Clr. Michael Williams, has tabled a question to be discussed by Pembrokeshire County Council at its next meeting in response to fears over the future of free school buses.
Clr. Williams, the leader of the Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales group on the authority, said: "There is a bill going through the House of Commons at the moment that is aimed at removing free school transport, except for families with very low incomes.
"At a time when we need to reduce the traffic on the roads on the 'school run' it is alarming to hear that the government want to make it harder for families to use school buses.
"A loss of free bus provision will hit rural areas in particular, but also be an extra burden on those families with several children of school age. Many Pembrokeshire families would be affected.
"I have therefore tabled a question to establish what steps Pembrokeshire County Council has taken to represent the concerns of parents across the county.
"The Plaid Cymru group is very concerned about this issue due to its social and environmental implications and we will seek to get answers as to how the school bus service of the future will serve our communities."
The meeting takes place next Thursday, July 15.
