A vacancy has arisen on Tenby Town Council following the resignation of a councillor this week.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the council, town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, informed members that Clr. Mrs. Maureen Ward had written that it was with "deep regret" that she had offered her resignation, as she had not been able to give her all recently.

Clr. Mrs. Ward was elected onto the council in May of 1987, but was previously forced to resign in January of 2007 due to ill health.

Mrs. Ward, who served as Mayor of the town on four occasions, in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 2000, returned to her council role late last year when she was co-opted back in the south ward.

"It's a bit of a surprise and we accept her resignation with regret; we've lost a good councillor," said Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, who chaired the meeting.
