Following a debate at last week's meeting of Tenby Town Council regarding a decision not to invite a meet of the South Pembs Hunt into the town, Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain wishes to clarify her position on the issue with the following comments that she made at the meeting:
"With regard to my personal involvement, hunting in no way affects me any more than any other member of the public, and so I see no need to declare an interest.
"I have strong feelings about hunting, but I have strong feelings on a lot of issues, as do all of us around this table, or we would not have bothered to stand for council.
"If we all had to declare an interest whenever we felt strongly for or against an item under discussion, then we would be left with the ludicrous situation that only those who couldn't care less would be allowed to decide the issue, whatever it might be," she said.
The town council was responding to criticism they had received on the matter from former Mayor, Clr. John Griffiths, who felt that a decision on whether or not to invite the Hunt back into Tenby should not have been taken at a previous meeting as the item had not appeared on the council's agenda.
