A town councillor has called for a 'progress update' on where plans are at to redevelop the former Gatehouse site.
Back in March, plans to redevelop the site of the fire-ravaged Gatehouse Hotel and other connected sites were unanimously approved by members of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's development management committee.
However, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council that many people in the town constantly asked her for information on when work would start on the site, so she felt it was time for a progress update.
"Still nothing has happened and people are starting to ask again why this is?" she said.
"Lots of people are upset at the state of the hoardings that surround the site, and people are asking what's happening with the plans. Are the National Park happy with the situation, we just don't know.
"It's been nearly four years now since the fire and people come back year after year to see that same sight greet them, which is a bit of a joke," continued Clr. Mrs. Brown, with her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, agreeing.
"It's just not fair on businesses in that end of the town, they're finding it hard as it is and the Gatehouse site is not helping one bit," she remarked.
"The screens and hoarding are disgusting, it's the first thing that greets people to Tenby," added Clr. David Morgan.
The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members that he had discussed the matter with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's head of development management, Vicki Hirst, who had told him that there was no need for concern as it was not unusual for work on a major project like this to take this amount of time to get started since planning consent was granted.
Clr. Mrs. Brown asked for the views of Mrs. Hirst to be put in writing and for an update from the developers to be given.
"We need some sort of sense of where the development is at, at this moment in time," she added.
