Information clarifying charges at Tenby's multi-storey car park has been given to town councillors, after they were recently sent proposals for off-street parking by Pembrokeshire County Council's director of transport.
At their previous meeting, town councillors had said that the information provided by Ian Westley of the authority, had been unclear, and they asked for a letter to be written to the county council seeking clarification of off-street car parking charges in the town.
Councillors also suggested that the charges across the county should be the same right across the board.
Town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members at their meeting on Tuesday night, that the multi-storey facility was to remain at 40p for two hours, with the extra hour still given for disabled bays.
He explained that the car park would not be free again over parts of the winter period, but that the new order would allow a 24-hour ticket to be purchased, which would last for the period from when the ticket was actually bought
Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that approach to the 24-hour ticket system made more sense than having to get back to your car by 9 am the following day to move your vehicle or to purchase another ticket.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Paul Rapi, asked if the county council had given any response to their request for a fairer rating system for car parking across the county.
The town clerk said that he had received no response on this topic and that neither of Tenby's county councillors, Clr. Mike Evans nor Clr. Michael Williams, had responded to emails he had sent them on the matter.
"Maybe we can ask them again, as this is a vital subject and I feel it's really bad that they haven't responded," remarked Clr. Mrs. Lane.
Her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, agreed and said that it was important that both of the town's county councillors got involved in the matter.
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall added that it would be good if the county council could offer free car parking for the month of December in the town to encourage people to visit over the winter period.
