The vacancy on the South Ward of Tenby Town Council caused by the resignation of Mrs. Maureen Ward is to be filled by co-option.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, the clerk, Andrew Davies, informed members that the statutory period required for 10 or more electors in the south ward to call for the vacancy to be filled via an election had expired and the vacancy could now be filled by co-option.

Under co-option those interested in joining the council are asked to write-in giving a little of their background and their reasons for wishing to become a member.

The applications are then considered by the council and the best candidate chosen.

To be considered for election to the town council, prospective candidates must either be registered as a local government elector for the town or during the whole 12 months prior to application occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises within the town.

Alternatively, their principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the town or for the last 12 months they have lived in the town or within 4.8 kilometres (three miles) of it.

Anyone interested in becoming a Tenby town councillor is asked to write, in the first instance, to the clerk, at Tenby Town Council, De Valence Pavilion, Upper Frog Street, Tenby, by Friday, January 30.

Councillors anticipate selecting the most suitable candidate at their meeting on Tuesday, February 3.
