Local councillors were given an update this week on the latest discussions held by the Hywel Dda Community Health Council (CHC) with the Local Health Board (LHB) on proposals concerning the future of the Tenby Minor Injuries Unit.
Meeting with the town council ahead of their meeting on Tuesday night, Mr. Tony Wales, chairman of the CHC, told members that further discussions had taken place between the CHC and the LHB in an effort to achieve some compromise or resolution on the various issues of concern, at the request of the former Health Minister, Lesley Griffiths.
Mr. Wales said that the additional meetings with the LHB had been welcome and had proved quite productive.
He explained that the CHC was now prepared to accept the transfer of the current MIU facilities at the Cottage Hospital to the local GP practices in Tenby and Saundersfoot, but only on the condition that a full range of minor injuries services was made available.
"We've heard a lot about the service level agreements, but we've yet to see those, and had no response back from the Health Board on whether they are to accept our proposals, but it's pretty clear in our document that until such alternatives are in place, then no services shall move," said Mr. Wales, who suggested it might be wise for the town council to seek a meeting of their own with the chairman of the Health Board, Mr. Chris Martin, and chief executive, Trevor Purt, along with local GP practitioners.
"We've made it clear that we will require no further minister intervention, but only providing that the LHB agree to our proposals," added Mr. Wales.
