Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, has fired a broadside at her fellow councillors this week over their non-attendance at a council meeting.
Tenby Town Council's scheduled meeting on Tuesday had to be abandoned after not enough councillors attended to allow proceedings to go ahead.
With only Clr. Mrs. Rossiter and two other members, Clrs. Mrs. Christine Brown and Trevor Hallett, present in the Mayor's Parlour at 7.30 pm, the appointed start time of the meeting, it was agreed to delay the start for 30 minutes to allow for enough members to attend to form a quorum.
However, at 8 pm, no other members had arrived, and therefore the meeting was abandoned, with all business deferred to a special meeting.
Following the meeting, Clr. Mrs. Rossiter said she was 'disappointed' that the council was not quorate and were therefore unable to transact any of the scheduled business.
"I appreciate some councillors were on holiday, or had other reasons for not attending and had given their apologies," she said.
"However, there were a number of councillors not present from whom no apologises had been received," she continued.
"Councillors must remember that under the Local Government Act they have a duty to attend or otherwise submit their apologies," she pointed out.
"Becoming a councillor is not a role we should take on lightly. Every effort should be made to attend meetings as we are there to represent the town and its electorate," she added.
Prior to Tuesday evening's meeting, there had only been one previous occasion when a full meeting of the council had been abandoned because there were not enough members present.
Councillors have now been summoned to attend an 'urgent meeting' on Tuesday evening.
