Pembrokeshire County Council has a new leader and a new chairman.
At the authority's annual meeting in County Hall, Haverfordwest, on Tuesday, Clr. John Davies was elected leader of the 60-member council, and Clr. John Thomas elected chairman.
Clr. Davies, 40, represents the Cilgerran-Manordeifi electoral division and was a member of the previous cabinet with responsibility for children, young people and Welsh language.
A farmer and fluent Welsh speaker, Clr. Davies is also a fully paid-up member of the actor's union, Equity, having presented programmes on S4C and appeared on the channel's Welsh language soap opera, Pobol y Cwm.
Clr. Davies, who is married with two children, was the only nomination as leader and one of his first jobs will be to name a cabinet, which he is expected to do shortly.
The new chairman, Clr. John Thomas, is the 'father of the council' (the oldest member).
He was chairman of the council when the authority came into being in 1995, during its 'shadow' year and in its first full year.
Originally from Login, Clr. Thomas has been involved in agriculture in the Llawhaden parish for 40 years, retiring from farming at Ty-Newydd, Bethesda, 20 years ago.
He has been a councillor for 31 years, representing the Maenclochog ward, which includes Llandissilio, Mynachlog Ddu, Maenclochog, New Moat, and - since the boundary change of April 2003 - Clunderwen.
Clr. Thomas is married to Olwen, and they live in Llandissilio.
His elevation was proposed by Clr. Don Evans and seconded by Clr. W. C. Davies.
Later, Clr. Clive Collins was elected vice-chairman, proposed by Clr. Rosemary Hayes and seconded by Clr. Peter Stock.
Clr. Brian Hall led a vote of thanks to the outgoing chairman, Tenby-born Clr. Mickey Folland, who now retires after over 30 years in local government.
