Tenby Town Council have agreed this week to consider all future grants and donations to organisations and charities at a set time of the year.
While agreeing to donate £25 to Tenby in Bloom, deputy mayor, Clr. Miss Lis James, felt that rather than consider applications for financial support piecemeal throughout the year, it might be better to consider all applications at a set meeting.
Clr. Andrew Rees noted that the council already had a set date for consideration of grants and donations, this being the annual general meeting.
Clr. Mickey Folland felt that it could be worth trying, but historically, as organisations met at different times of the year, it was difficult to avoid some late applications.
He felt that rather than consider all applications at the annual general meeting in May, it might be better to wait until October, by which time all organisations should have met and established their future funding needs for the year.
Clr. Miss James agreed.
"At least that way we'll be in the same frame of mind and look at every application in the same light," she opined.
Clr. Rees also felt that October would be a suitable time.
"It will mean that we will know how many organisations and charities we will be supporting and allow us to precept accordingly," he said.
Members agreed that, in the new financial year, all grants and donations would be considered in October. Any grant requests received before that date would be kept on file until the meeting.
