Tenby Town Council have decided not to press ahead with a suggestion to purchase the town's former Cottage Hospital site, although councillors have indicated that it might be a proposal that they can keep an eye on.

Councillors had given consideration to acquiring the site in Trafalgar Road, for car parking provision, with the land due to be sold by Pembrokeshire County Council via public auction at the Giltar Hotel on May 11.

Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, town clerk Mr. Andrew Davies said that the guide price for the land was £250,000 to £275,000 and he had looked into the possibility of funding being accessed via the Public Works Loans Board to help finance any purchase, but with the auction only two weeks away the time frame to draw up and submit a financial appraisal/business plan woulld be unrealistic.

"It would be a nice idea, but being of the essence, there is not enough time to press ahead with this proposal," said Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.

"Perhaps we can keep it in the eye and see what comes of the auction, as you never know, the site may still be available," added Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
