A former Mayor of Tenby has voiced concerns from a number of traders in the town, who have become disgruntled with the traffic chaos that has arisen in High Street recently. Clr. Mrs. Maureen Ward's views were brought about following discussions regarding a letter from Pembrokeshire County Council traffic manager, John Price, that was before the town council at Tuesday night's meeting. The letter proposed installing signage stating that the walled town was a restricted zone, rather than painting double yellow lines on the paviours adjacent to the kerb in High Street. Disabled bays, limited waiting bays, residents bays and loading bays would then indicate where parking would be acceptable for respective users. However, since work on the second phase of the enhancement scheme has been underway, Clr. Mrs. Ward had been approached by traders in the town unhappy with the lack of policing of illegally parked vehicles on the street: "What's the point of introducing such waiting restrictions in the future if the police can't control the traffic and parking problems that are causing chaos in High Street every day at the moment," she said. "Certain traders have been taking photographs of the traffic problems, with a view to passing them on to the police authorities to highlight the problem," she added. There is currently a length of single yellow line on the south side of High Street to the east of Bank Lane, which defines no waiting for a length of 29-metres between 8 am and 6 pm on any day. The county council believes that if the current restriction was changed to a lodaing bay, then it would standardise the form of parking within the walled town, with the enhancement proposals indicating that a lay-by was to be created at that length of road.
