At Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, the town clerk reported on the recent vandalism of railings at the Paragon, and how he himself and the head gardener had visited the site and made the decision to close the gardens until further notice in the interests of public safety.

The clerk also said that it had been suggested that it might be an idea to remove the covered shelter to deter youths from the garden, and that the police had promised to monitor the area with their CCTV system.

Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown responded by stating her concerns on the problem.

"The nearby residents are very concerned about the growing problem of youths using the gardens for things they shouldn't be and I don't think that the covered shelter should be taken away, as it's one of the beauties of that garden," she commented.

"The police are well aware of the problems and always promise to do something about it, but never do. They should be watching that area a lot more closely as there has been vandalism taking place there for the last three years now," added Clr. Mrs. Brown.

Footnote: Police have confirmed that they will be monitoring the situation at The Paragon, which has become a meeting place for youths who congregate in numbers.

"We will be obtaining details of any persons found in the gardens when they are closed," said a spokesman.
