Young Musicians of Dyfed have received a financial boost from Tenby Town Council this week, just as they are set to stage their annual competition in the town next month. For the past two years, the charity organisation's trustees have run a 'young ensemble' competition, which has given the opportunity for young talented groups of instrumentalists and vocalists to shine in an unique musical competition. Fifteen entries have been received, with ages ranging from 11 to 18. Entries this year include string quartets, brass, steel drums and wind quartets, with several groups coming from Pembrokeshire schools. This year's competition will be held at the town's Greenhill School on Saturday, April 30, from 10 am, with the finalists concert at 7.15 pm. As the organisation of the competition is carried out by volunteers, Tenby councillors agreed to donate £50 to the Young Musicians of Dyfed to help contribute towards the hiring of equipment and provision of prizes. Anyone interested in further information on the competition can contact Dot Griew on 01267 237261.
