Plans to demolish buildings on the former Ford Garage site in Tenby so that the land can be utilised as a temporary car park, have been backed by local councillors.
The application, submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority by Mr. Giles Birt, of Lock Estates Limited, was discussed by members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, with members recommending approval of the plans for the site in St. Florence Parade.
However, one councillor did voice concern about the demolition work.
"If the buildings are going to be demolished, surely there will just be rubble left there, but for how long?" asked Clr. Paul Rapi.
"We don't want something resembling a bomb site there. I doubt they're going to re-tarmac the land and mark up parking lines, so we need to monitor it," he added.
Clr. David Morgan also queried as to how long 'temporary' meant. Would it be for just one summer season or for potentially five years?
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall asked if the council could enter into talks with the owners of the site to see if the car park could be utilised during the winter period and not just during the summer, as the parking spaces could be of great use to locals out of season.
"If this is done properly, then I can't see a problem with the application, as more car parking spaces is something the town needs," added Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
