Members of Tenby Town Council have given their thumbs up to plans to develop a 'care village' just outside the town.
Plans for the development, which comprises an extension to the existing site of the Park House Nursing Home on Narberth Road and the related healthcare/hospital facilities there already, were brought before councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.
The new scheme will provide 132 mixed tenure serviced units with associated communal facilities and access to form a cohesive healthcare campus, which the developers say will provide a 'care village' complex for older people.
Tenby councillors gave their backing to the proposals, which are due to be discussed by Pembrokeshire County Council this month, with Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas calling it a "worthwhile" scheme.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sandra Williams, concurred, saying that the development was a "fabulous idea" and seemed to be the way forward for healthcare facilities.
"It's a very exciting scheme and I'm sure it will provide a fantastic purpose-built facility for the area," commented Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans.
Members of St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council discussed the application which crosses into their ward, at a special meeting last week, with members offering no objections to the proposed development.
