The Rotary Club of Tenby's inaugural 'Young Musician' competition for children of junior school age, was held recently, and Tenby Junior School pupil Corey Morris, playing the trumpet, came out on top in a very talented field of young local musicians.

Despite three late withdrawals due to illness and injury, a high standard of musicianship was achieved by the competitors, who were all commended by the adjudicators, James and Melanie Walker.

Rotarian Bob Storey, the Rotary Club of Tenby's vice-chairman of community and vocational service, had undertaken to organise the much-enjoyed competition, along with his colleagues, the aim of which he said was to encourage the many fine young musicians in the area.

Rotarian Charles and Mrs. Audrey Roberts have very kindly donated a perpetual annual challenge shield, to be inscribed with the winner's name, along with a smaller replica shield that the winning 'young musician' can keep.

On the competition evening, held at St. Johns Church Tenby, (with the very kind permission of the minister and elders), the pupils, who all performed to a very high standard, were Joe Worley (St. Florence Junior School) on saxophone, Elliot Ronowitz (Tenby Junior School) on violin, Dominic Ciccotti (Tenby Junior School), also on saxophone, and the winner, Corey Morris (Tenby Junior School), on trumpet.

A much-enjoyed evening was rounded off by a short recital by the Tenby Junior School Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Miranda Davies.

The Rotary Club would like to sincerely thank the minister and elders of St. Johns Church, adjudicators James and Melanie Walker, Rotarian Charles and Mrs. Audrey Roberts, along with all who took part and contributed to the success of the evening.
