A construction and building maintenance company has stepped forward to offer assistance to help enhance a Tenby play park.

Residents of Heywood Court recently contacted the town council seeking support to look into the possibility of refurbishing the play park area, which had not been upgraded for many years and had gone into a state of disrepair somewhat, with residents undertaking their own work in recent times, just to cut the grass and carry out small improvements to the facility.

“Heywood Court park is a hub of activity for children and young people in the area, yet is often overlooked for funding and upgrading, while Tenby’s play park is replaced and upgraded on a regular basis,” wrote resident Mr. Hatch in correspondence that recently came before the town council, explaining that the county council had inspected the park for the third time this year, but stated that they had no duty to provide play areas, or improve the park.

Discussing the matter at the town council’s last meeting, Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues that Heywood Court park was a ‘beautiful open space’ and a key area for the estate that should be maintained.

Since the meeting, Clr. Evans and the town clerk, Andrew Davies, had held a meeting with R and M Williams Building Group construction director, Mr. Allen Evans, who had been undertaking a project nearby at Greenhill School.

“As part of a community benefit scheme, Mr. Evans told us that R and M Williams Building Group had a couple of projects coming up and have offered to replace the rotten wood at Heywood Court’s play park and also paint some of the equipment there, so that’s a start,” said Mr. Davies.

“We also met with resident Mr. Hatch who wrote to us, and have told him to come up with a list of project needs for the play park,” he continued.

Clr. Viv Perry told his colleagues that he would like to see other play parks and areas in Tenby being offered some enhancement works as well in the future.

Clr. Evans recently suggested that there could possibly be an opportunity to tap into the ‘Enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant’ scheme, to look at funding for other play parks in the town that require upgrading.
