Speeding restrictions outside a school in Tenby are not being adhered to, it was claimed this week.
Addressing members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Wednesday night, town clerk Andrew Davies, said that he had been informed by Clr. Dr. Peter Easy (who was not in attendance) that concerns had been raised at a governors meeting of St. Teilo’s School that motorists were not sticking to the 20 mph speed limit that had been introduced on Greenhill Road.
“The lollipop lady, staff and parents get the impression that the new limits are not being observed and want to make people more aware of the 20 mph zone especially outside the school,” Mr. Davies said.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that it was the policy for the whole of Pembrokeshire that 20 mph limits be introduced outside of schools, and that St. Teilo’s was one of the last in the county to be done.
“There is no reason for anyone to be driving faster than that along there. Now it is recognised that motorists are not observing it, perhaps the school can also raise the issue of taxi vehicles commissioned to do drop-offs at the school, not to stop in the zig-zag areas outside as it doesn’t set a good impression,” he remarked.
The town clerk said that he was aware that PCSOs had been monitoring any speeding in that area over the last couple of weeks.
