A parent from Tenby is concerned about a new craze whereby young children are misusing a modern type of fishing bait.

The small glow in the dark sticks are used by fishermen as bait and can be purchased from any fishing shop, but it appears that youngsters are purchasing the glow sticks which are popular at nightclubs.

Tracey Gorehan, of Tenby, is worried about the dangers of misusing the bait after her niece accidentally put one in her mouth.

"One of the sticks broke in her mouth and she swallowed some of the liquid contained in it. She then came out in a rash, after an allergic reaction, and as a result had to go to hospital with blood poisoning.

"I've heard that lots of youngsters are buying the bait from fishing shops as some sort of new craze and I appeal to shop owners not to sell the glow sticks to anyone who they think won't be using them for fishing purposes. I'd also like to warn other parents of the dangers if they see their children stupidly misusing the sticks."
